Hi, I was wondering how hard it is to replace the ECU in m45/fuga 450? Is it easy to get to, is it just unplug one and plug in the replacement or does it need to be re-programmed once installed?

I am thinking about trying the UpRev on a Fuga but have been informed that they do not work on the JDM Fuga, so it might brick the car if I am unlucky, hence the question about replacing the ECU

thanks,

The physical part is not terribly difficult. It is hidden behind the glovebox so once that is out of the way, it is easy to remove the current one and install the replacement.
The functionality is what might be tricky. I believe the ECM is connected to many other modules, especially those related to starting the car. You would need to either replace all of them or reprogram the ECU to the car and it's existing components.

Have you had a chance to look at the factory service manual? [Linked in my signature below] There is a lot of fun to be had looking in the relevant sections.

Thanks yes I have looked at the manuals, but only briefly, and unfortunately I am unable to find one for the actual Fuga, just the M45 ones. I don't know how different the two cars are, I would expect the difference to be only minor relating to the Fuga being RHD. To be honest I don't understand why the ECU's would be different enough for the UpRev to not work on the Fuga.

Me neither, the engine hardware is the same and I trust the output to be the same. Have you been under your car? I am curious about a few things and maybe even exploration from the top down, with the hood open will help solidify my assumptions.

On the ECU location, I'll assume most things would be in the same relative location, but reflected on the opposite side of the car.

I have only just brought the car, so it is going through vehicle compliance and registration (as it's fresh import) and I pick it up on Thursday.

I expect the same, everything should be the same except in the dashboard and driver controls.

But then I can not think of any reason for the sales rep to tell me the product he is selling wont work on the car unless it really wont work.
