It's lower than you think.

Disconnect battery first!

Get in the passenger side way down at the floor.

At the outer wall just in front of the door, the carpet goes vertical.

That vertical piece of carpet is a kickpanel hiding the ECU. It's backed by plastic and held in place by a single 10mm nut.

The nut is located at the front the kickpanel where it wraps around and begins to run along across the lower edge of the firewall. A small postage stamp size piece of carpet makes flap to hide the nut from view.

New question. How do you do the manual code reading? What position should the key be in the ignition?

you don't have a service manual do you? I can't recommend working on these parts without even the little bible sized book that came with every Q.

with the ECU out, reconnect the harness and turn it so you can see where the screw driver slot is.

reconnect the battery.

Turn the slot in the ECU with a screw screwdiver

Turn to the key to "on" (ABS lights up) but don't start.

count flashes of the check engine light.

I recall this being the process:

Turn the key to "on"Turn the screw all the way (don't force it), wait at least 2 secondsTurn the screw back, then count the long/short flashesTo clear the codes, turn the screw again, wait at least 2 secondsTurn the screw back to its original position

go with Daedalus on this one. My wife was out in the car with my manual when I wrote that, and I worked from memory.

A fellow NICO member has my copy. At the time, he needed it more than I did.

Thanks for the help :)
