was wondering which is better an ECU re-map or a stand alone management system. i think the stand alone is better but i have heard different things.

standalone is much better, but a remap is like sub $300 so it's a lot more cost effective. The problem with a re-map is you still stuck with the limitations of the stock ECU and stuck with a MAF. A standalone will get rid of both of those issues.

what other main problems are there with the stock ecu besides the MAF. and how much is a stand alone system.

the problem is the stock system isn't designed to run a high HP motor, it's just limited. Like a stock T25, you can bore it all you want, make it into a big 28, but eventually you have to give it up and go bigger.

Standalone is going to start off at like 1,000 and go up from there, then another 500 to have it tunned. And install if your not up to that (another 3 or 4 hundred I'd guess)

Not to sound rude here, but I don't think you want to get into standalone. It takes a fairly deep knowledge of your motor and tunning to really make it work right (even if you pay sombody else to tune it, you're still gonna have to tweak the cold start maps and whatnot yourself.)

Stock ECU and management is safe up to the 350-380hp area. You can go higher than that but that's where I'd stop. Scott at secret services is a tunning god as far as SR's go and that's where he advises to give up on the stock management and go aftermarket. Maybe somthing like the Apexi PFC would be up your alley.

a stand alone will get rid of the Maf? or do u mean just the problem associated with the small stock Maf? If thats the case can u run a z32 Maf with a stand alone?
