Which ECU would have come stock in a 1997 S13 180sx type X. Its a black top motor but which ECU??????

E5 was early Blacktops.

My redtop came with an E5 ECU.

dont redtops only use the 62 ECU? maybe you have a blacktop with a red valve cover. look for the heat sink fins on the deck of the head.

J4 is the TYPE X ECU. E5 is primarilly 94-96 180sx blacktops.

Damn, my bad. I had things mixed up a little.

Pre-96.5 (Chuuki 180sx) blacktop S13 motors use E5, but 96.5-98 (Kouki 180sx motors) use the J4 ecu.

I know its a redtop and no there arnt heat sink fins on the motor. My clip just came with a E5 installed for some reason.

red tops came with fins too

i believe it was the 93+ ones

i know mine does and it's def not a black top

P.S. there is no TYPE-X blacktop, TYPE-X is the body style of the 180sx, it's simply the kouki 180sx blacktop

Those redtops where rare. They only made so many before they switched to blacktop production.
