i was just curious, what do you guys use for computers? stock ecu? stock ecu w/piggyback? chipped ecu? standalone? what works best for street cars? also, ive heard that its pretty hard to chip the rb25det ecu, and that alot of guys are rechipping the rb20det ecu to work with the 25. i have the software to do it, if anyone is curious.

I've seen some people running chipped ecu's, and I've seen some guys using piggy backs. It depends on what you want out of the car really.

Got it...

I do different approach... logic anlyzer to see how they are using the lookup tables. Minor input change, observe rom location address, observe output.

Pretty straight forward as long as I can observe the EPROM or Flash and take it from there.

Ok im gonna hijack this thread since there are a bunch of people who can reprogram ecu's in this thread, so i apologize.

the skyine ECU, the OBDII standard.

any way to make it work?

Yes and No.

YES... a "translator" can be used to go between the OBDII diagnostic port and the Nissan Consult diagnostic port.

An OBDII code reader would plug into this "black box" and never be aware it was not reading a OBDII compliant ECU.

NO.... OBDII details a series of diagnostics test. Example is two 02 sensors, pre and post, catalyser to confirm the catalyser is functional.

So to be truly OBDII compliant needs a new ECU (i.e. 300ZX unit) with all the assorted sensors (i.e. fuel tank pressure, additional 02, etc.). The translator would not show any "fails" for those codes, so technically is not OBDII compliant.

Why do you need to go OBDII? Can't you just rewire your chasis harness to plug into the skyline harness and go from there?

this is to get it through emissions, not to get the engine running.

roundrocktom - I dont care if its an actual OBDII system, i just want it to pass emissions. it just seems stupid to me, the engine would pass a sniffer, a visual, but because the port dosent work i immediatley fail.

damn EPA :D

i want to hear more about this "translator"

you can post it here or contact me privatleyhawk0028 - aim[email protected] - email

thanks-Joe
