Does the check engine light have to be on for the ecu to throw codes. I am having problems with my MAF. After I cleaned it with brake cleaner the car started having idle problems and would die at stop lights. It was running very rich. After I came from vacation the car doesnt surge as much only minimal from 500-800RPM but now the car runs sluggish. Thanks for the input.

you probably killed your MAF when you used brake cleaner to clean it. the MAF is really sensitive. use electrical parts cleaner only.
