So I went to Infiniti this past weekend because my SRS warning light came on and the code was for a recall so I took it in. Got a cal from the dealership after having my car for about an hour and they said that when they hooked up the car to the computer the VIN number came back messed up with * and missing letters. He says he believes that their may be some damage done to my ECU. New ECU was gonna cost $2,000. Anyone have an information or suggestions??

Never heard of that. But that's insane for an ECU. Would look for a used one at junkyard/ebay.

Or, go with an aftermarket ECU. Search the forums for some suggestions...they are all cheaper than 2k!!
