ECU # location

Called my local dealer if the 2001 pathy needs ECU re-programmed- they said it depends on the ECU#- does anyone know how to get the ecu #? without going to the dealer- is that supposed to be the software version?have an actron scanner, not sure if that can tell me what's the ecu#

I am not sure but I think the ECU is under the drivers side dash near the column. However I would not unplug it because I have read where it says not to. I am not sure if it would hurt anything but I would make sure before I did.
