Trying to get my engine to start (SR20DET S14 Blacktop 1998) in my S13 but it dont.

Now when I was just about to check if there was any error codes given from the ECU i noticed that it dont signal anything at all.

Does the ECU have to be mounted on the chassie for ground or something?.. thought it would not have to be so.

Any ideas why the ECU is "dead". can I check somehow if the ECU is working or something?

Well, if the ECU is "dead" then that would be a pretty good reason for the engine not starting. There is no external ground on the ECU, as I recall, though it is entirely plausible that it is designed to ground through the harness or even the two screws used to mount it.

The diode COULD be damaged, but I've never known an LED to "burn out." Take your ECU to a VCR shop, or any place where they routinely work with compact electronics, and have them check for shorts. It shouldn't be that expensive, and if you've already spend the throusands of dollars to get that SR into your car, then this $20 or $40 bucks should be justifiable.

Of course, if the ECU is damaged, you'll probably need to find another one.

I'm having a VERY similar issue with my Nissan. Long story short, there was a direct short in the wiring caused by the dash bracket digging into some wiring. I pulled the dash, replaced the burned wires, and no start.

Tracing a fuel pump issue back to the ECU, I tried to put it in diagnostics mode. No blink. Nothing. Just a little red light that stays on, no matter how many times I turn the knob clockwise/counterclockwise.

So I'm curious -- Did you have to replace the ECU? Or did you find something else (ie: ground or whatever)?

Thanks,
Jason
