I recently installed a ca18det into my s13 pretty much stock other than an sr20 t25, 3" exhaust , fmic and q45 maf placed near the TB. I hooked up a neo for now just to get it running, I have another exhaust cam to do the swap and Im going top mount t3/t4 then I will run a chipped ecu (for all the safc haters out there lol) The only way I can get it to start is 1 in 7 out on the hot wire function. When I drive the car it has horrible hesitations and doesnt make any power, bucks and kicks and wont pull hills. 0psi and 9psi feel the same, if you hold it to the floor at 9psi shortly after it backfires and falls hard on its face. Also when I first plugged in the ECU both green and red led lights worked then shortly after the red light went out, I put in another ECU. Same issue again. Any ideas?

Take off the Q45 maf and NEO thing and then it back to stock. You should have driveability and not have problems that you complain of. Once you learn more about what you're dealing with, then you can experiment with the add-ons.

my swap didnt come with a ca18det maf. All I had to work with was the ka24e maf and it was broken. The car wont run without the safc on it to adjust for a maf other than stock so Im stuck with this option . My biggest concern is why the ecu only illuminates the green led and not the red led. I listed the other issues just incase they could be tied together.

Move that MAF away from the throttle body. You are getting pressure fluxuations which is messing with the MAF signal.

Better yet, spend the $25-$50 for a KA24E MAF and wire it is. You still need to tune for it, but it is close enough to do some more accurate diagnostics.

I had already pulled the covers on both ecu's to check for burnt spots and they seem ok and are oem. At first they both illuminated both lights then after starting it and moving the car maybe 20ft the red lights went out and nothing brings them back on, Ive tried unhooking the battery and everything. If you dont mind checking to see which maf you have and get back to me that would be great, thanks Also..Does anyone know the hotwire setting for a q45 maf? I have it as 1 in..thats the only way my ca18 would start so my settings are 1 in 7 out

I did a quick search on the part # on google, and shows as 22680-40F00 = 89-90 240sx SOHC

Here is a pic

And how to wire it

KA harness

Black = groundBlack/white = 12voltswhite = signal 0-5volts

Ca harness

Black = groundBlack/white =12voltsgreen/black = signal signal 0-5vgreen/yellow no connection

so the Ka Black goes to CA black = groundKA Black/white goes to CA black/white =(12voltska white goes to CA green/black = signal 0-5volts
