i do i know if my ecu is bad....

if im not wrong the light on the ecu will be red i think. dont hold me for that just putting my input in. whats it go to? what car and model year

you should have a code 31. turn iginition switch to "ON". erase self diagnosis memory. perform self diagnosis again. if code 31 comes up again chances are your ECU is bad. you can try to borrow an ECU from someone to make sure

well i just figured out that the ecu works in my buddies car but the problem now is that the plugs are not getting spark i tested the ignition coil it has power but i am not getting any spark

make sure tachometer meter needle moves when cranking. if not, connect a timing light on each wires and check flashes of light for weakness. check ignition wire resistance. replace bad wires. or just replace them all including the plugs completely to quickly eliminate them as the problem. check your power transistor and ignition coil:
