Okay, so my bro has an auto 05 g35 with z-tube, pop-charger, plenum spacer, and exhaust. He is not getting the power he wants and wonders if the ECU might be limiting his car in some way.

He raced another g35 the other day with 19" wheels, intake, and plenum spacer, but lost. He came home extremely aggravated as would I, but I found his torment somewhat comical (does that make me a bad person?).

The question now is if getting a reflash, stand alone EMU, technoflash addon, etc. would help him.

Anyone have any experience with this.

PS. He goes to g35driver.com and refuses to come to nico so I came here to ask for him. People here seem to know about the mechanics of cars.

It could potentially help him, but figure on a ECU for a non-turbo car adding some 5 HP at best. He would barely see the effects. Any idea what exhaust he is running? And do you know how the 2 cars compare in terms of options? A Base model G35 will be a little lighter than the fully loaded one. And was the other car a manual transmission?

OBDII cars (after 1996) can react faster thus more HP can be preprogrammed into the ECU... On old (up to 1995) more safety had to be built in (for retards not running premium or areas that didnt have premium) because it cant react as fast....

All the ECU's do for the G35s from what I understand is just make the car feel faster by modifying how the throttle by wire reacts.... It doesnt actually add HP, and its certainly not the way to go if you want more power...

was he racing a 6 speed???

if he needs more power, either something is wrong with his car (how much did he lose by) or he's not driving it right, assuming that both cars were equal.

Both cars were AT so... I doubt driver error would be much of a factor. He has the fast intentions intimidator exhaust. He didn't lose by that much, but he said the other car started pulling ahead on 2nd gear.

You think my bro actually lost power from too much airflow and not enough back pressure since everything he's done to the car basically just gives the engine more air? I told him to dyno his car, but he hasn't had time lately.

My bro thought maybe he was running too lean with all the extra airflow and the ecu flash might help it by adjusting the A/F ratio etc.

Oh yea, my bro's g is pretty much base. No navigation, 18" wheels, etc.

IMO a reflash for plenum and intake alone will probably not make a significant difference. But there is a flash available for fully opening the throttle at WOT and raising the rev limit to 7K without altering any timing. That could benefit all G's.

Once you start freeing up exhaust, I think dyno tune is a good idea along with a more advanced reflash or chip. The A/F ratio being one reason. But a dyno tune will also tell you what is really going on and give you some kind of reference.
