so I've been buying all of my necessary parts for the VH45---->RX7 swap here recently, and this week I just got my pocket romulator, chip burner, and my stock ecu is out getting socketed right now. I'm not new to the chip burning scene, as I've helped a few friends use D-cal and hondata and another friend burn some chips for his DSM.

It was easy to setup because there were config files for the specific engines that I got to mess with.

My question is - will I be able to use LiveEdit to tune my Q45 ECU? I haven't found a config file anywhere. One of my friends sent me the .bin file for the JWT chip for Q45 ECU's, and it is named "91_jwt_act_64U02.bin". I opened it up in LiveEdit, and the fuel and timing maps are just complete jibberish.

Does anyone have a lead on a VH45 config file for use with live edit??

I've got all that stuff defrag, address files, definition files, many bin files... here's a screenie of my dir, just tell me what files you want out of this and gimme your e-mail and I'll send em on through.

My mate uses rom editor, which uses the address files... it's pretty damn well defined too... got the fuel map for each gear etc, it's the business !

Pity I know stuffall about rom editing myself at this stage... I have yet to learn all the jargon like "injector pulsewidth" etc... would you be able to point me in the direction of a mean tutorial please ?

mettler - if you could zip that whole directory and send it to me, then you will be my new best friend!![email protected]

the best generic tuning outline that I've found is this one - http://www.well.com/~mosk/EFI1.htm#AnchorFI. It's written by a guy who has tuned toyotas, but the general concepts apply to everything.A more detailed explanation of what you are looking for when you tune is http://www.diy-efi.org/gmecm/papers/tunetip.html. It's geared for GM ECU's, but generic ecu's aren't too far off in their algorythms.

Sent dude !

Here's a site you'll find useful for playing around with your ECU, it's got plenty of info that I have yet to thoroughly read and digest.

PHENOMINAL INFORMATION!!!!

Thanks for posting the link.

I want to go out and get the stuff to fine tune my NICO ECU, now!

WIth a Dynojet across the street, and a Nissan tuner running the place, I may squeeze some more HP out of Lola yet!

The best software I've found so far is Nistune. It's still under development at the moment but its fantastic. I kinda pointed out there might be a Q45 market so it now supports Q45.Basically you need a Romulator or microrom emulator and a consult interface. You then get realtime trace of all maps. Stick a wbo2 wideband on too and you get real time overlay of actual AFR on the maps too.If anyone is serious about trying it I'm sure matt might like some feedback on the Q45 application.I've used it to tune a lot of Z32 and it works brilliantly - so good I stopped developing my stuff when I first used it.

MegaSquirt would work too.

I've been thinking alot, and I think I'm just gonna run the stock ECU untouched until I can get a megasquirt setup. I've messed with a megasquirt alot on other cars, so it's not new at all.I would rather just spend the 300$ on a prebuilt MS2.2 than 200$ on a romulator + 50-ish on a chip burner + however much it costs to have my ECU socketed. Then, it will still be a foreign setup that I will have to learn.

I made a quick attempt at connecting it to our 450sx. At the moment there's something going on with the blast usb consult cable and nistune so it wasnt working correctly. I've been too busy with other things to help matt work out the bugs. Hopefully I'll get time soon since were getting our dyno next week.

As far as using megasquirt I think it would be a lot more work. First, megasquirt isnt going to work easily with the coil on plug and sequential injection of the vh45. Then you still have to wire everything up, vtc might still work, the cas might work (never looked to see). The only advantage would be you can dump the maf.
