Can some one tell me if the ECU's are vin specific? In other words can I get the same modle code ecu (in this case UM) and it work from anouther car? Or is nissan stuff like BMW were it has to be from the same vin number or it wont work. If that is the case what are my options as I think I may have a bad ECU. Thanks

Jay

ECU's and engine wiring harness are generally interchangeable, to an extent.

Early 2003's have a different (older) style of ECU altogether. 2004-2006 should all be the same and interchangeable. However, you would need to get it reflashed at a dealership to work with your keys in order for everything to work properly. I'm not sure about 2007+ although I believe all coupes from 2003-2007 are interchangeable and I think 2007-2008 G35s are interchangeable.

I found a ecu that worked. It had the same 2 letter designation. UM.

Sorry I guess I was a little vague. Both cars are 06 year the donor was a 350 and it went into my g35 also both are 6 speed. I did the vin/key relearn and it works great. Also the number string below the UM was spot on save for 1 number. I have driven it all this week now with this ecu.

Poyzinous/Uprev...someone with more ECU knowledge. What would it take for an older (2003) ECU to get a newer style?

What would the swap consist of? Wiring harness/ECU? Would that be enough?

We haven't done one yet, but there is a bit more than just adding a few wires to the harness. I'd be interested if one of the nissan/infiniti techs wanted to diagram the wiring and sensor differences. See if anything major needs be done. I'm sure there are a few of the 03 and early 04 owners that would love to update to the wideband O2 like the 04.5 and newer cars have.
