There are plenty of other sensors and things that effect theway that the motor operates that are not checked by the ECU. Things like:-AAC-Air regulator-O2 sensor-Injectors-Vac leaks-Turbo problems

Just b/c the ECU sees that the few sensors it checks are ok, does not mean that your car is ok.

Every now and then, someone has this ghost of a problem. Here's something you can try, but you gotta becareful with the gas pedal: Pull the wastegate hose off and let the turbo slightly overboost. Do not try this on highway because you maybe tempted to keep doing it and you may end up being sorry. The car should get full power/boost quickly and you will then be able to tell if your car is responding to boost or not.

You will get all your power by 3500 rpm. If something is wrong with your car's performance, this way will definitely confirm that it is indeed in your engine management and not your physical motor. Dee

so then i'm guessing i should try and source a new ecu or go standalone... correct? or could it possibly be something in the wiring?

timing could be off...

does the car start to "buck" at a certain RPM? if soo you need to increase the TTP max

I believe his problem is more serious than timing being off. Even with the timing off, it won't be that lazy; but it will ping and set-off the knock sensor causing the timing to retard. Hopefully he can pan this out because if not, he's in for a long and wicked battle.
