As part of a routine ECU Talk check, ECU Code 46 for the Secondary TPS appeared. I cannot clear the code so this might be a real malfunction. The TPS reading on the ECU Talk hand held shows 0.42V.

FSM section EF & EC page 117.

No CEL code is appearing. It seems to drive ok.. What type of symptoms should I be experiencing? I've seen some posts about sluggish take off.

Just as another check, I unplugged the gray three connector plug and the RPM jumped up to 975 and it seems to be more responsive. Yet still no CEL even with it unplugged. I didn't drive it with the TPS unplugged..

You have Traction Control (System) and their is a problem with the secondary Throttle Position Sensor. There are two throttle on TCS cars one is mechanically controlled (Your foot) and the other is electronically controlled (By a Control Unit).

It is just a base model.. If that is a code normally seen on a TCS model, now I scratching my head..

I found a picture of the TPS from the bottom of the plenum.

Do you have a TCS ECU (Engine Control Unit) installed? Whats the part number on the ECU (ECU Talk should be able to read that).

I've got a NICO ECU.. Wes might know the model number.. I'll need to get the laptop going tomorrow evening to get the model number.

Yeah we always program the Ecu with the TCS programs, so if your car doesn't have TCS it will throw that code. Completely harmless and no CEL shows so 95% of the population never notices.

We used to ask customers what their car was and progam them special, now we try and have a bunch ready for shorter delivery times, so it's kind of a trade off for everyone. :)

Thanks Wes.. Does the new (step up) 4 mode model come with stock settings?

How funny - I plugged in ECU Talk and found the same code and this thread :rotfl

I have an older Nico stage 2, so good to know it's just the ecu and nothing to report.

i'm having crazy issues that i though were fuel pump related, but after pulling the code last night (by ECU led flash), 46 is the only one being displayed. I got on here to report that in the stalling/dying thread.. and saw this.

you're not having any differences whatsoever in performance though?

If you have a NICO ECU, and your car does not have TCS, code 46 is fine. I think the ECU is setup to support both TCS and non-TCS models. I just ignore code 46 using the ECUTalk code reader.

I have a stock ECU and TCS equipped. So would it make the throttle response/idle act erratically then?

Nate - Man I wish I had some experience with a TCS model. My 91 is just a base. The video from the other thread sure looks like it is starving for fuel. I think Goody, Heath, and Wes will be able to provide more information. I have a spare FPCU and new fuel pump that I keep on hand for eventual replacement. Thankfully, I've not had any fuel issues with mine to gain experience.
