ok i tested my ecu for my 91 hicas 240, and got code 34 knock sensor. now, does this mean that the sensor is malfunctioning, or that i'm detonating and don't realize it. i'm pretty sure i'm not detonating. any and all info/help that yall could give me would be appreciated. thanx for reading this.

open or shorted circuit. check your conections for corrision and terminal fit in pins. If ok replace the sensor. no fun to get to on a 240. its mounted to the block behind the intake manifold above the oil filter.

yeah, i know... figure i'll check it next weekend when take the intake manifold off to take off the SCV and EGR stuff, might aswell change the PCV while i'm in there. out of curiousity... how badly does this sensor need to be in good operating condition? thanks for the help nistech

it controls timing to prevent pinging. it retards it if it detects the slightest knock. i dont know off of the top of my head the resistance in it but you should substitute it for a resistor if you are just going to remove it or the code will not go away. the sensor is there primarily to protect the engine. If it were me I would rather fix it then remove it.

well i disconnected the battery after i was done checking the ecu, i'll let the ecu reset and i'll check it later, if it is malfunctioning i'll mess with it and hopefully i won't have replace it. thanks for your help.
