My car keeps throwing a code 13, which is the coolant temp sensor. I changed the sensor but it keeps throwing a code. Could it be my thermostat or hopefully not my pump. Any ideas would be appreciated.

yes, the car went back into safe mode, idleing higher and the fan is on. I think it might be the harness. Could it be anything else, and my gauge reads, engine temps normal. Any help appreciated!

My 91 FSM says to fix an error 13, check Engine (coolant) Temp Sensor and the harness. Unless your s14 is different than my s13, your problem is either:

-The new sensor is bad.-The sensor isnt plugged in correctly.-The ecu ecu error codes werent properly reset after you replace the sensor.-The harness has a short or an open somewhere.

Leper,-Im checking the sensor tomorrow with a digi. meter.-It just screws in, i havent messed with the sensor for the cockpit because i think its ok.-When you go to mode 2(diagnostic mode), when you change to 1 it automatically wipes it out, right?-I think the contacts are bad, who u callin short.to 1 dollar 240 It doesnt idle much more sometimes stable at 750, mostly stable at 900. It isnt revin too high, but just runnin the fan all the time gives me a good loss in hp. Does anyone know anything else to check, should i flush the coolant system?Anyways thanks to all, J.

I belive that its mode 4 that wipes out the codes.... just to be safe, take the battery cable off for about 15 min.... yeah youll have to reprogram your cd deck, but tough luck!!!! Give it a couple days and see if the code 13 comes back.

According to my '89 FSM the ECU has 5 modes.I - Echaust gas sensor monitor (this is the normal operating modeII - Mixture ratio feedback control monitorIII - Self diagnostic system (normal code reading mode)IV - Switches ON/OFF diagnostic systemV - Real-time diagnostic system

mode IV on mine when running the car erases the memoryHowever, it also says in mine that "Methods of erasing memories differ with systems. Read the manual before diagnosing systems."

Just disconnect the battery cable for 15 mins and that will erase the memory for sure.
