Wiggling the connector or the engine torquing [twisting] wiggling the connector or going over a bump...................or just that religious time of the year..............gamma rays from space*.............the space shuttle landing..........a 2 degree temperature change.
These things can drive you nuts.
I always change something and wait a week to make sure.
Changing the CAS is time consumming because of the need to set timing correctly again.
* Not kidding because a high enery particle can precisely hit a transistor junction and destroy/weaken it......... like 1 in a 100 billion chance but there are lots of particles and transistors in the world.
12 year old things fail and sometimes heal for a short time...............just turning the vehicle off resets the ecu clock which is driven from CAS reference wheel [the 1 degree wheel].
A few astute technicans take the time to look at the CAS output pulses making sure they are all [360] equal height [voltage amplitude and width] as dirt can partially block some of slots in wheel..............if enough pulses are freaky the ecu throw up [sets a code] and goes into fail safe mode.
