The problem that I thought was the MAF turned out to be the CAS and KS. From what I have been able to tell from Searching, the KS doesn't activate the CEL. Is this correct? Also, as far as the CAS is concerned I haven't been able to find a lot of information. Is the cam angle sensor the same as the crank angle sensor? Would the cam angle sensor throw the same code as the crank angle sensor? Are there other factors other than faulty CAS, connectors, and or wiring that could give an ECU Code 11?Any help and insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Harold

Theyre the same thing in terms of the Q... on some cars theres a crank angle sensor or cam angle sensor or both. Technically on a Q its called the "camshaft position sensor" mounted on the drivers side cam...

i would try cleaning the connector, maybe youre getting a bad connection. At least try that before buying a replacement CAS.

Thanks Wes, I cleaned the connector, cleaned inside the CAS cover with "lectra clean" and am getting the same codes and the same syptoms, though the car seems to run a bit better (less rough). Is a used CAS advisable? are there electronic ignition components in the CAS that are replacable? Thanks again,Harold

You should definitely get a used CAS... be sure you get one from a 90-93 as the 94s are different.

So, the new development is, after ordering the CAS and connectors from PopPop, the problems (car shutting off after reaching normal operating temp, restaring with CEL on but not achieving over 3000rpm) have ceased. The car runs great! Any ideas why code 11 stopped? Not that I'm complaining...just confused. Thanks for your help.Harold

As most have learned by now ................new harnesses or at least new connectors for all critical sensors are just part of the every 10 year rehabilitation.

Yes, but I guess I wasn't clear. The problems ceased before I ever had a chance to change out the old parts. I haven't even received the new parts yet! What would make a CAS problem stop being a problem without any R/R?

Wiggling the connector or the engine torquing [twisting] wiggling the connector or going over a bump...................or just that religious time of the year..............gamma rays from space*.............the space shuttle landing..........a 2 degree temperature change.

These things can drive you nuts.

I always change something and wait a week to make sure.

Changing the CAS is time consumming because of the need to set timing correctly again.

* Not kidding because a high enery particle can precisely hit a transistor junction and destroy/weaken it......... like 1 in a 100 billion chance but there are lots of particles and transistors in the world.

12 year old things fail and sometimes heal for a short time...............just turning the vehicle off resets the ecu clock which is driven from CAS reference wheel [the 1 degree wheel].

A few astute technicans take the time to look at the CAS output pulses making sure they are all [360] equal height [voltage amplitude and width] as dirt can partially block some of slots in wheel..............if enough pulses are freaky the ecu throw up [sets a code] and goes into fail safe mode.

By the way the 3000 rpm limit was the secret clue as if the 1 degree CAS pulses are not perfect, the ecu reverts to the 90 degree pulses to try to maintain the engine but limits rpm to 3000.

Read EC30 Fail Safe in FSM.
