I’m getting a code 24 knock sensor or circuit

I belive I should just check the wires and replace the sensor as necessary.

But i can't find the damn thing and i removed the oil fileter and i can't see crap.

I was concerned when my probe (115hp) was faster then my 240(150hp) so I check for some codes and it's giving me a 34. I’ve cleared it and it comes back right away. Could my timing be a problem?

it is above the oil filter. below the intake manifold. You can get to it with a long extension with a 12MM socket on the end. You have to move the two fuel lines out of the way and you can see it.

i just want to clean this POS connector and the FSM doesn't have anything other then a diagram of what the KS looks like. i wish it had some intructions on removal. so i could atleast know what i'm doing

Does this affect performance? i'm assuming it retards timing so when it's in it's open state throwing the 34 code. so fixing this code would result in better performance, right?

nistech i know you showed me some awsome fsm pages on the cams a while back. do you happen to have any on the knock sensor cause i con't find any in the fsm. or is there some advice you recommend? like maybe even a size resistor to use so i can test if it's the sensor or the cuircit.

this drawing does not do the location justice. looking at the drawing it appears its on top but no it is staight down from the area circled bolted to the block.

Ok I replaced the sensor about 3 weeks ago I’ve been very busy since then. I’ve gone to ma and back to TN for vacation and now I’ve finally got to look at the car again. I’ve got a stage 3 centerforce clutch since then too. I love it BTW.

I have replaced the knock sensor and it was cracked.

I just cleared the ECU and it gave me a code of 55(all good).

I start the car and put ECU in diag mode then back to normal after 5 seconds.

I check code again and I STILL GET a 34(knock sensor or bad circuit.).

WTF what's next the harness, how am I suppose to trace that back to the ECU?

OK I poked around under the hood while it was running and i hear a slight ticking noise from the valve cover as if i had rockers. but i don't have rockers? maybe i should have left the chain guides off.

i'm scared help me plz

nistech DO you have any more sugestions other then the ovious rewire the circuit? or should i just take it to a dealer for a more extensive diagnostic?

did you replace the subharness as well when you replaced the sensor? Its about 12inches long it comes off the sensor and connects to the main engine harness, alot of times the connection between the harness and that sensor will go open.

burnin I have the same code on my 93... I just went and checked it.. How much did you pay for the KS? I am thinkin about replacein mine to see if it helps, I get a little hesitation around 2500RPM, sometimes lower sometimes higher, I am thinkin this may be related..and it dosent feel as strong as I think it should.. Thanks for all the help everyone on this site has given me, I dont know what I would have done (or what I would be doing now) withough my NICO family...lol..... Mav

multimeter time! time for you guys to use the continuity feature on it and test the wires. lol

I paid about 130 at o'reliys but that only because I got them to price match pinnacle Nissan on the price. They originally wanted 190. And they had it that day. :)

I have checked the sub harness for continuity just like the trouble diagnostic page EF &EC 165 in the FSM and its fine. So I’m just waiting on the new harness since I have no other option in the diagnoses. Although I have not tested the main harness to pin 27 on the ECU which is trouble diagnostic procedure 31 on page EF & EC 116 in the FSM.

I probably should have done this but I am taking Nistechs advice. Even though Nistech told me to change it with the sensor i just changed the sensor since the sub harnes was 45 bucks.

I am very familiar with DMM and even oscilloscopes since for I have to with my engineering degree.

Well burnin, i am a little dumber than you (ok, make that a lot dumber) I have no idea how to check continuity with my DMM and not sure what it is supposed to read. Thanks for the price on the sensor though...that made my day...lol peace, Mav

well NISTECH was right again.

don't know how but the new harness fixed the problem and it only had one wire. i'm wondering if i cut the ground on the old connector if that would have worked but i say F-it it's running at a perfect 55

thanks again NISTECH. I won't question your wisdom again.

hey guys, sorry for the thread resurrection but i think i have the same problem, my ecu popped me code 34 (and 103, no idea why but thats not related to knock sensor)

how much did the harness cost? and where did you get it? and how in the world did u you down below the intake manifold, it seems impossible to access the knock sensor, or put a new one in there for that matter

also, how do i clear the ECU? i dont like my CEL and i wanna check that it wasnt a faulty code so i wanna try clearing it first

thanks,

Marko
