Well, I'm looking for a little advice.

The CEL came on a while back, and the dealer claimed the left O2 sensor was bad. I'd like to pull the code, but am having some trouble figuring out where to read the LED.

Questions.

1. On a 94 Q (the first one with a grill), the ECM still has the LED to give the codes, right?? I tried to read them without removing the module, but I can't see anything behind the module, even using a little dental mirror. (Wonder if you could see it at night in the garage?) Either the LED isnt bright enough, or its obscured somehow. And the OBD II systems didn't replace the LED's until later models, correct?

2. It sounds like I have to remove the ECM to be able to see the light. To do this, its necessary to remove the big connector bolted to the front?

Looks like four vertical phillips head screws hold the ECM in the metal wall bracket, but the room for a screwdriver is close to non-existent. Do I need one of those stubby phillips heads on a ratchet to remove the screws, or is there some other technique? ..... Please don't let it be that you have to remove the dash.

Thanks.

You'll need to remove the ECU to get to the screw that you need to turn to access the codes, in addition to seeing the LED. Removing the connector will make it easier to get the screws out. I use a jointed socket with a phillips driver, but whatever works for you.

I could never get the ECU out without removing themain harness connector. Its justa 10mm socket... Comes out real easy... I also have to remove that piece of trim below the glove box.

Removed the ecu yesterday. Now I understand how to do it. The ECU is held by large phillips head screws that are concealed by the connector harness. Its clear that the harness has to be removed in order to get the ECU out.

THe screws that I thought had to come out are the four small screws that are holding the ECU into the bracket....they don't come out, the screws holding the bracket to the firewall and sidewall come out . Sorry for the confusion.
