The service and repair section of the Nissan dealership I use told me today that the Service Engine Soon light was on because the ECM had to be reprogrammed. He said this was caused by starting to drive before the blue light went out. He said it is a common problem with Nissan cars. My model is a 2010 Versa SL. I didn't have the problem until one of the dealership mechanics left the oil cap loose and it came off. The dealership is also saying no damage was done to the car by leaving the oil cap off even though the oil dip stick showed no oil left in the car. It probably travel 20 to 25 miles in that condition. Can anyone confirm what I'm told about the ECM. I've been told that if there isn't enough oil the engine is being damaged even if it doesn't seize up. What is correct. I've also had a similar experience were there was a oil leak and the alternator bushing were damaged. Any ideas from anyone.
