I am haveing a problem accessing my fault codes in mode 2 for while the engine is running, how exactly do you do this on a 91 KA24DE, i can only get the mode 2 to work with the engine off, and all i get is a code 55 which is "normal operation", when the engine is rumming i should also see a O2 sensor light flashing 5 times in 10 sec. but i get nothing at all. can someone please tell me the trick to this, my car stalls when i start it and there is something wrong, but i cant get any fault codes or lights with the engine running. i just need the proper sequence to how the code reading works

first the car must be at operating temp. Mode 1 mixture control. Mode 2 O2 signal Mode 3 trouble codes Mode 4 closed throttle switch Mode 5 real time failures (if present)

Modes 1&2 are done at 2000 rpms watch the lights and dont worry about counting them just that the flash pretty steady like equal time off as compared to on. Mode 3 flashes codes as you have figured out Mode 4 tap the throttle pedal the light should come on when barley stepping on the gas pedal. Mode 5 is done either driving the car or just idleing it will start flashing if a failure is detected and wont do anything if the computer doesnt see a problem.

If you got the code 55, that means you made it to Mode 3 and bypassed Mode 2. If I recall, you can get to Mode 3 with the key in the on position and the car doesn't even have to be on, correct?

Regardless, if you're getting a code 55, that means the problem is not one of the ECU error codes. Check for fuel, spark, and compression.

Well for now i may have the problem solved, i found my positive battery terminal with that lovely red connector holding the two wire harness's, was broken at the eyelit. I previously had a Mazda that had the same thing happen and ran like crap, so i got creative and altered the eyelit to resemble a half moon, with the help of my angle grinder and grinding stone, I then reattached the lead and connector. car fired up runs smooth, and for the first time the car now idles at 750rpm. I believe the problem is fixed, but for now i will wait and see. even after trying the code reading again i still came up with code 55 meanig all is well, but i still cant get the O2 sensor test to perform, no flashing lights when at 2000rpm for up to 4 minuets, when the car is at operating temp. it is a new sensor so it likely works, but as long as the car continues to run smoothly i will leave it be.

no sorry it was for the de, you can contact your local nissan dealer service department, and ask one of the tech's what that code means, i got them to actually email me a code sheet which was pretty cool of them.
