i'm thinking of getting a eclipse cd7000. I have had a cd5442 for about a year and before that a cd8445. The 8445 was awesome except i wasn't fond of 8v preout. Anyone have a cd7000 or heard one.

Looks like a decent deck. What do you have against 8V outputs???

my sub amp is only rated to accept a 5v input and my subs would clip at full volume with the gain at the minimum level. I know i could make it work with where i would set my volume and match my gains to that ,but i have always set my amp gains to my h.u. at full volume since i started in car audio 12 years ago, Plus i like the cd7000 being the only eclipse h.u. with a detachable face. I had the same problem when i had my xtr2250 running my subs as well.

I've never set amps with the deck at full volume, your way past clipping at that point.

not if you are running off the preout of the deck and you match the gains to the preout. In other words i have a 5v deck and if i set my gain all the way at minimum which is 5v in i won't clip unless the amp was only meant to accept lets say 4v then yes i see i would.I don't run speakers off my h.u. i never have and never will. Then if my volume goes to 80 and i listen to it at an average of 70 then i don't see where i would reach a clipping point.
