Good Morning,

I know a lot of Q45 owners have upgraded their head units are car alarm systems, so this question is for you all. I am about to purchase a Eclipse AVN5500 double din dvd/nav unit. I heard that it is a great unit, but I wanted to know if anyone has this unit, or heard any type of reviews about it. Also, what type(brand) of car alarm system do you all own? I still have the factory alarm on my Y33 but I wanted to upgrade that also. Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

I have been very happy with my Viper 550ESP with remote start. I installed it back in 2002 I think. I was fortunate enough to find someone who would sell it to me "cash and carry" so that I could do the installation myself, so everything is soldered and heat shrunk... no cheesy butt splices or tapcons.

As far as the head unit, I have heard good things about the Eclipse and the Pioneer units. The one thing that swayed me toward Pioneer a year or two ago when I was sort of looking (haven't bought anything yet) was it's Bluetooth capability.

Please post some pics after you complete your upgrades!

I will definitely post some pics once my car is repainted and everything installed! Thanks for your input on the alarm system.

AVN5500 with 6.5" is discontinued model. Replacement model is AVN5510 with 7" screen. If you are going to get headrest monitors or the visors get AVN6600 or AVN6610. AVN6610 is replacement model of AVN6600 and I have AVN6600 in my car. AVN6600 have a function RSE (rear seat entertainment) which AVN5500 or AVN5510 don't have and RSE will allow DVD out put to play to the head rest or visors while you do the NAV or the radio in the front.

As far as the alarm system I always stick with clifford SST one mile range two-way system with remote start, so you know when someone is f***ing with your car. Clifford has a nice carbon fiber look remote and it looks classy than the viper with blue remote.

I have clifford RS3.5 with remote start, trunk pop, fuel door pop, optional window up & down, and a microphone glass sensor. I have integraded with factory alarm system so I have two alarms working together. I've used the factory horn to be different and louder than the alarm siren and I used the factory LED on the dash to prevent drilling an extra hole for a silly after market LED.

Thanks!! I really needed that information. I will go with the AVN5510 unit since I would like the 7" screen better. Also, your clifford RS3.5 has all of the features of this Viper 771 VXR that a Best Buy Rep. tried to sell me.

Why are you looking to replace the alarm? Do you live in a really scary place that you think the unit will be stolen and an aftermarket alarm will protect it???

I am going to do my 97' with that 7" Pioneer, but i live in a rural part of the Bay Area and park it in my locked garage nightly.
