okay story time....so i drive to drill( 180 miles one way) jusr fine no problems out of the car. well on the way home tonight i stop off at taco bell. while in line i notice my car starts to over heat and my battery light was barely on ,so i flick on the heater to get the ac fan going and to get the heater coils moving more coolant. that stops the heating problem then when its my turn to move up in line, i tap the gas and hear the sound of paper crinkling. imediately after both my e brake and battery light come on. so i figure i have a short somewhere. well i unplug my ground for my e brake and it stays on, i cheack all my fuses in the car and under the hood( all while waiting in line lol) well i come up with bupcus. the two lights stay on for about twenty minutes. when i finally get moving i check to see if i can give it a roll start. that works. then i parked at the top of a hill and tried to start it normally. the starter kept hitting the flywheel wrong and grinding. so i pushed it donw the hill and started to drive off. i took a sharp turn too fast slightly skid and both lights turn off and it starts just fine..... any ideas as to wtf happened cause im kinda confused....

This happened to me as I was driving home about two weeks ago. I heard a spitting/cracking noise near my fuse box and both my battery light and brake light came on. I checked the four candidates: starter, alternator belt, grounds, alternator and battery. Three things checked out so I thought my alternator was going out...had it tested and it was fine. Days later the 15A fuse for my tailights went out as this was happening so I know its a ground somewhere on the tailights. Has to be the passenger side because I just put a brand new assembly on the drivers side tailight.

update on the debocle ...so now the car has died. the lights remain on and theh alt has stopped charging. i've re-checked all the connection on it and the battery and all the fuzes.ive traced a good bit of the wires back and still havent found anything wrong. im getting ready to take the alt to get it tested along with the battery.
