does anyone know if an ebay short shifter is any good? or any where i could comandeer a less expensive short shifter?

The only thing that will be wrong with a Ebay short shifter is the bushings. The bushings on a Ebay short shifter are crappy. SPL parts makes bronze shifter bushings, so you could just buy a set of those and put them in there and it should be fine.
