looking at this and wanted to know what people think about them or if anyone has tried it,

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...A1171

thinking about getting one and just throwing away the filter that comes with it and buy a good name brand air filter, i dont see there being an issue using non name brand pipes.

I'd rather get a good drop-in filter.

buy the thing, its a true cai, just eventually add a knn filter and make sure the drivers side inner fender liner is in so the filter will not get water thrown on it from the tire

yeah the fact that its cai is my only reason for thinking about it and i wouldnt trust no ebay air filter at all so that would just hit the trash can right away. price wise it beats getting an injen short ram and cold air extension.

could you give a reason behind saying its a waste of money? like maybe the fitment or something to that nature because any pipe is going to do the same thing reguardless of the name and thats allow air flow. i already said i wouldnt use the air filter that comes with it so any argument about that would be a mute point.

There are reason why people pay good money for a product they will not have to worry about.

Fitment issues is somethign that should never come up if a product is made correctly for its application. If your worried it may not fit, then it is not a quality product.

My only advice is that if you choose to order an intake from ebay, that they atleast have pictures of it on a car.

I gave the ebay thing a shot and of course I got pipes that did not fit properly whatsoever.

I would rather pay more for something I know will fit then have to do guesswork.

really is your call.

+1 but much engineering goes in so you don't have as much of a chance of malfunction

i know things with moving parts shouldnt be bought from ebay because of saftey/malfunction issuses. so that left me questioning the air intakes. lets say they do fit properly then that leaves the hoses and filter in question. what if the hoses cant resist the heat in the engine bay or say the filter doesnt keep trash out of your motor. there are alot of things to consider when buying from ebay, thats why i brought it up and left a poll. wanna thank everyone that has responded so far. i hope someone that has bought an intake like the one in the link i posted can chime in. knock offs can be good or be crap but you never know until you ask.

just messaged a guy on ebay that bought the intake to see what he thinks about it, i asked him about quality and fitment so lets hope he writes back and we may never know it might just be that heck of a deal we all look for.

I got a similar ebay intake. Fitment is meh, gotta tinker a little. No problems with it though, the filter wasn't even bad for the 2 days that I used it (before replacing with K&N). I think I've even seen a couple packages that are ebay piping with a K&N filter.

I bought one and the filter it came with is one that they sell at autozone. I ran it for awhile. K&N is nice and all but 60 dollars for 3 hp is ridiculous. Youll get more from this than a drop it. Ive also order ebay 3 inch cat backs and i dont have a complaint at all. Fitment was good and they sounded great. An intake is just piping and a filter theres no reason to spend a lot for the little bit of power your going to get.

For intake wats the difference of putting a brand name. I mean its just piping. I understand the fitment issues and all, but u have to tinker with everything. If i were him i would buy it and put a k &n filter on it.

Its metal tubing, filter and couplers.... not a stressed component. If you feeling like wasting money on a intake in general sure go for it. But your only going to able to suck in as much air as the throttle plate and engine vacuum allow.

Make sure you get a Tornado too, or all your money spent on that nice intake will be useless.

Exactly.

Some of you people really over analyze and under think. It's just piping.

At the end of the day, most of our cars are 10-20 year old econoboxes (Not you Mr. LS )from an engine perspective.

Change the mass air flow to a 300zx I've heard that makes a big difference. Heard mixed reveiws about the tornado thing. Or just go turbo and then you can just use a small pipe to compressor side inlet. If your all about a budget go ebay kit or name brand parts. I live in California so I'm gonna have to get CARB exempt kits from either AEM or Ingen. There may be others but they run bout $280 or more.

You tell him to go N62 without the mention of tune, then say compressor, then go back to carb okay intakes. Your all over the place man, slow down.

well maybe his car is tuned the mass air flow is just a down the road upgrade to do. CARB is California Air Reaserch Board or something like that. Dont know what N62 is? Is that the 300zx mass air flow. The turbo is another option so he would'nt need to buy this ebay kit. You must be another member of the NICO PD, Keeping are forum site free of replys that dont meet your apporval. WTF???

No matter what intake you get your not going to make a butt-load of power. The fitment would be the only concern that I would have buying from ebay.

A long time ago I bought one... I wouldn't listen to anyone else, it's very useful.. AS A PAPER WEIGHT

But seriously, buy it if you want a good laugh. The tubing dents when you knock it with your knuckle.

I bought my intake off of eBay. Mine came with a K&N filter though. It's been on the car for about 5 years now and I haven't had any problems what so ever out of it. Try to find one with a K&N filter and get it. There are some eBay items I wouldn't put on my car, but some are okay.

It's a damn intake!! Who cares who makes it. Get the one from ebay don't even spend the extra money on those other expensive ones.

For most other things I get legit companies products but I mean for a stupid intake you really can't mess that up and using cheap materials for this doesn't even matter.
