Hi. I have a 1993 hatch w/ 255,000 on the clock...the motor is still runnin strong, but I'm due for a new clutch. If I give it about half throttle in 5th gear it starts to slip!

I've been looking on ebay and I see Exedy clutches for about $100 and XTD stage 1 clutches for about $170. Eventually I want to do a full rebuild, but for now I'm on a tight budget. The only mods I have are cold air and electric fan swap. I still may be able to make some mild upgrades in the near future, so I want a clutch that is slightly better than stock, but nothing crazy. Can anyone tell me, is the exedy clutch kit basically OEM? or does it have more clamping force? Is the quality good? The ebay pages don't give any claims for the clamping force of this clutch.

The XTD stage 1 clutch claims it can handle 270hp/241 ft-lbs, which is more than plenty for what I need. What is the quality of XTD? any recommendations?

Thanks a lot for any help you can give me.

i bought an exedy clutch off ebay and i've had it for about 6000 miles with no problems. it does feel like stock though and i don't know how much hp it can handle. as far as i know exedy is one of the largest clutch companies around, so it should be pretty good. just make sure you break in the cluch disk properly
