hey everyone i ran a search for "ebay boost controllers" and it came up nothing. so here's my question... what do u guys think of this ebay boost controller? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...&rd=1

at least for the time being, i know its a MBC, but until i get the money together for an AVCR, this will have to do. help out, it looks different than the other $10 MBC on ebay, so im giving it a loook. would like to turn up the boost on the SR, but don't want to do it with crap!thanks, quang

A safer alternative to up the boost cheaply is an adjustable wastegate actuator. HKS sells theirs for around $100. Alot cheaper than rebuilding a motor after trusting some no name MBC. It's up to you though, alot of people make their own at home depot and they supposedly run fine.

I dunno man, how much can you trust a brand name that's called "Lower Shores". I mean, they could have called it "Higher Shores"....

But on a serious note, have you checked out the "Joe P MBC"?

from what i can see isn't the joe p. just a ball and spring type.. this one is a ball ansd spring for coarse adjustments and a bleeder valve for fine adjustment? am i right in this observation or does it not matter?

this one doesn't have a ball and spring at all.. its just a bleeder valve.

it works great. i had it on my last car and spiking to 13psi, holding 10psi i ran a 13.6@106 (open diff, 195 all seasons)

i actually just ordered the same one a couple days ago... it should come tomorrow and ill let you know what i think once again.

it seems like it gives absolutely great response and fast spoolup, but it doesn't hold it up high. if you feel the response on this thing you really don't care if it holds it up high because the response and increase is really really good.

its worth the money...... i may have had another boost leak on my old car, so ill test it out tomorrow and thursday and let you know if its holding boost.

mynismo, are you referring to the ebay link with the bleeder valve or the $10 ebay ones like JoeP. w/ a ball and spring?

i have the $10 ebay one, it lokks the same as that one but not as flashy. I have it set at 10 it gives me a little boost spike from 10 down to 8psi in 1st and second put holds really good at 10psi in the higher gears. in my friend fwd sr20det, it has no boost spike at all even at 14psi i dont know why it does it on my car. but i still like it

I made my own from home epot till i get the avc-r, it works perfect and i was able to accurately dial in to 13psi. Didnt want to take chances so didnt go higher. If you need the plans for it email me at [email protected]. It cost me 13 dollars total and took 20 minutes to put the first together. Or if need be ill buy and put together for you and you can just reimburse me for the reciepts. I already have several of the parts that homedepot doesnt carry like the spring and ball bearing anyways.

i appreciate the offer though, but i already bought the $10 ebay one. and if your plans are the ones i seen on the net for a ball and spring type, then yours and the one i bought are almost identical.i paid 10.50 for mine, and the same ones can be had for cheaper, i just used the buy it now option.

ill let you NICO how it turns out!

the one i bought is "lower shores performance" one. its between $40-45. better than the ball and spring ones, because if they break they dont slam your car with full boost... the ball and spring ones do.

well worth the money. im going to the track tuesday running close to 1 bar and ill let yall know how i do compared to the 14.5 at stock boost.

No, that was last weekend too!

The car's running OK now. My power steering hose went bad a couple weeks ago and I didn't realize it until my pump was groaning. So I had Ter-Tech take the hose to get fixed and install a new p/s pump for me (I barely have time to wipe my own *** right now). Now I also need a new transmission (or a rebuild on my current transmission). Don't ask me how (especially since my motor/transmission have very low milage), but the main shaft bearing has gone bad (and maybe some other bearings too). I'm very pissed about this.

The lower shores boost controller is pretty good for the price. I have it on my car now and it holds at 10psi all day long. I would definetly recomend it for cheap boost control

The ball and spring (pressure relief valve) boost controllers work pretty good if you don't mind a 1-2 psi boost spike. I made 2 of these and used a 3 way solenoid valve to make a 2 stage controller. Most of the time a drive around with the low setting 9psi, and with the flip of a switch I go to 13psi.Works for me.
