Ok, so here we go. I got bored the other day, and decided to make a run to Home Depot. (I really hate them because they don't give a military discount. Only on 'special' holidays. Although Lowe's gives the discount 24/7)(/rant)Picked up a few things from there to construct another potatoe gun. I wont list the parts because I don't want to be held responsible for anyone doing some stupid ish'.. (like I'm not, right?) Anyways, here's a few pictures. I didn't take any of the build because I was trying to get it done before my wife caught me. And don't mind the pic at the end, that's just some crazy back woods guy I found to pose with the said 'project'

Sharpen the end so you can just jam a potatoe on the end and it cores it perfectly.

Aim N Flame FTW!!!

Here's that backwoods guy....6'3" for height comparison

Soo many uses for Brake Lines.

So there you have it. A few pictures of what we do when we get bored on base. And here's a picture of another abomination from a while back if you guys aren't familiar with my 'projects'

HAHAHAHA, very nice...is there a port to spray in the projection fluid? Unscrewing the end FTL.

Don't use hairspray either, clogs up the internals. I recommend ether or starting fluid...same thing really.

I expect pics of this IN USE or you will be banned.

YES! That's what I'm talking about!

Per talking to WD tonight, I'm on a mission to build a monster. Cost will be exponentially higher due to only being able to buy 10' lengths of the crap. But I'm sure I will utilize it pretty well. ...unless....I can hit up the construction sites around base, or the towns around here. See what I can 'find'....

Post up pics if you got them guys! I wanna see how many other crazy guys we have around here! And I'm sure if you don't have one, you will want to build one. And there is no way I will question any body's ability to build something like this. I'm sure you guys can, due to cars we all drive.. And the engines they have..

There will be some video tonight, I'm hoping. Flames shooting out the end. The PVC pipe becoming transparent... Oh it's an awesome feeling.

Man spud guns are fun as hell. We made a few of them back in the day, cant say iv ever shot a sharpend piece of brake line though lmao.

Even with just hairspray they shoot like 500 feet into the air and a quarter mile or so, the conc is so sweet when they go off. Like a mini cannon

You should build a pneumatic spud gun.

Easy to construct. They also out perform the simple hairspray gun.

Pneaumatics aren't easy to get around. I made a small gun in my garage that would drive a BB into a 2/4. But it was gay since I only had 30' of airhose.

I guess if you have a C02 tank...but thats defeating the purpose I think. A small shot of starting fluid will launch a golf ball or spud far enough to never be seen again.

Eric, what you need to do is build a clip that will hold several golf balls. Then rig a reloader via a slide lever or some such. When you pull the lever, the ball drops in, the ether sprays and you can hit the ignitor.

One could really get crazy with idea's here.

ive never had good luck with the combustion part, even though visually my igniter made spark every time. I think it was the fuel injection method.

Is there a special orientation to hold the can? Also, isn't starting fluid usually liquid and gets shot out in a fine single stream? Not like aerosols?

How much fluid do you put in? Do you have to shake it or give it time to fume up?

I think i've had one or two that worked amazing but I don't recall anything special about my technique then. But damn that was fun when they went flying.

Oh god, 3 years ago in my old house we had a BEAST. We experimented with ether, propane, butane, hair spray, etc.

It was a 2 inch barrel that was about 6 feet long with a 4 inch diameter y piece as an expansion chamber.

We used a stun gun and MANY screws to ignite it, lol.

Some starting fluid has a bunch of ether in it...I was using actual ether.

Having a propane can attached would be way cool though...lol.

I've found that the trick is to get a fuel that will burn slow enough to keep from blowing the PVC apart. But not too slow as to not waste any of the fuel and have the projectile 'plop' out of the end.

I have found that Acetone works well. Soak a rag, or a paper towel in Acetone and put it in the combustion chamber. Fire it off. You can then un-cap the end to let oxygen in, and re-cap then fire again. You can do it a few times. It wont burn off all the acetone because it will only burn as much as the oxygen will allow. Not sure why I like this idea. But I used the same idea, but not with Acetone. I used the actual PVC Pipe Cleaner that you use before you glue it together. No logic involved in the choice, just the buzz I got while assembling the gun.. I soaked the paper towel with the cleaner(Oakey or something?) and man, did that make a pretty good oomph.

You don't want a big 'BANG' with the fuel. As it wont 'push' the projectile out. Only pressurize the chamber and kinda flick it out the end. You want something that will burn slow enough to 'push' the object out the whole time it's in the barrel, but not blow the hell up in your hands.I think I'm gonna drill, and expoxy some sheer pins in the couplings so it doesn't blow apart... Call me paranoid..

OH yeah. Been drinking for about 2 hours now. It's gonna be a fun night tonight, guys.

Ok, so the cops came tonight after a decent night of drinking..(6+ hours... dollar draft night at the NCO Club)

The ol' cannon got messed up by my sister playing with it when she was drunk. Few weeks ago. She tried to shove an apple down the barrel.(duh, POTATOE gun..)

Anyways, cleaned out the apple, and filed up the contacts on the piezo igniter. Fired just as clean as she did the first day I assembled her..Went outside to shoot her off.. A few 'dud' clicks, and them ka-fukin'POW!!

....sent a potato chunk into one of the new housing buildings across the street. I heard 'crassshhhh' as falling glass hit un-finished concrete....

Needless to say, as I was checking out the carnage, the SP's rolled up, and caught me across the 'fence' in the house. No trouble, they didn't even realize what had happened....

....until the call came in of a CANNON going off moments before they caught me over there. They came back to my house (now 1am), asking if I heard/knew anything of it since I was 'out and about' at the approximate time.. I claimed I heard nothing, and closed the door..

And now I sit typing this to you guys. Hopefully not too many spelling errors. But I would like to keep this open to anyone with some ignorant s*** they would like to share upon causing havok with their 'said' cannons...

Nice!

A friend of a friend had a potato gun down in south Jersey. Potato's didn't fit that well, so he started using limes. He had a old pickup that was destined for the junk yards soon, so we started shooting that from pretty much point blank. Holy crap there is nothing like the sound of the cannon going off, the projectile escaping the end, and then the lime exploding all over the door panels of an old Ford...

Best Propellant to use is Def Right Guard Deodorant Spray the Original Scent in the Brown Can, it was "fantastical" in our spud gun, also Try using the electronic Push Button grill ignitors not the red push button piezo ones, Like This Part Number From Charbroil:

Electronic Ignition KitItem#: 80010777

Electronic Ignition ButtonItem#: 80004343

Here is a Clicky you want part V and part YY on the diagram

I'm up at Hanscom here in Bedford/Burlington Massachusetts.... Sorry excuse for a base... Hence, why I cause trouble.. lol

All in all, that was fun the other night. I still can't get over how the white PVC piping, becomes transparent with a hint of orange when it fires off..

Soon as I get a decent video camera, it's game on.. I'll show you what this little guy can do. I WILL be making a larger version, but I have to wait for the extra cash. That little one cost about 30 bucks, and that's only because they had 3' pieces pre-cut in the 3" or else you have to buy 10' sections...

I can't remember if we talked about tennis balls on AIM or not, but they would be cool to blast around base...and WAY less damage when they hit ****.

I ALWAYS use ABS plastic or else I don't feel too safe. Anyway, we had hit a UPS truck on one occasion.....but I'd rather not get into that day and forget it ever happened, lol. (we also hit an Escalade)
