I was just thinking after talking with pork chopp about an easier way to tell if the guides are done.

Would anyone be against just removing the upper passenger side timing cover? It seems easy to get to and you can take it off without removing the upper front cover.....

Thoughts?

Removing the upper timing cover is the only way. There's no other way. Trust me, I spend an entire week in a shop with my car on the rack trying to find a way so I could make a Nico writeup about it. Never found a way.

IIRC, there is an inspection port on the timing chain cover, but you would then need a flexible borescope (and light source)... can't see anything of significance behind the port.

Once you verify it is NOT metal backed, time to open up... as we know, it is not if, but when, the plastic guide will fail.

Yeah... I agree..... its also hard to find a flexible boroscope.....

I think someone should try to remove the upper timing cover on the drivers side, that only takes about 20 mins to remove, and you could determine if you have bad guides...
