OK, so I was reworking the stereo install of the 2003 M, I removed the spare tire, rear deck, rear seat and all the related trim peices in the back of the car. I had to run out and meet the wife for dinner and low and behold, when I put my foot into it, this thing seems to pull harder and feel a bit quicker. If what they say is true; 100lbs equals 15bhp. I have lightened my load by at least 75 lbs. Could this be the way to get a true 5.5 sec 0-60?

Huuum, makes you think don't it? lol

Definitely a functional way (altho not always practical) to get better performance.

Anyone remember the old article in Hot Rod Magazine from the 80's "Caddy Hack"?

They took a late 70's Cadillac Sedan de Ville and started removing weight... It was an 18-sec car (or so) at first. They removed weight in stages...

By the time they were done, it was nothing more than a frame and a seat, but it ran in the 13's with insane wheelspin!

on a luxury car especially an M its not a real good thing to do... if your doing a sports car thing, then thats fine, but a new car.. ehh i have mixed feelings... IMO whats the point of buying a luxury car (esp new) if your just gonna rip all the luxury stuff out.

Paint some flames on the side, That makes it go faster....

in case you dont know where to buy your flames...http://www.magneticflames.com/p.fastflames.htm

These can also be removed when the the cops pull you over, as they stick on via a magnettk

Presume you went by the strip for multiple runs to verify that 0-60 time?

If a 100 pound reduction shaves 0.1 sec in quarter mile, then you could extrapolate that to 0.04 sec reduction to 60 mph.

A small [well controlled progressive less than a 50 HP jet] shot of nitrous could do this easily assumming you got sticker tires and tuned the engine correctly to minimize the damage to reliability.

Such a reliable exotic N2O system I proposed would cost 4-5-6 times the typical junk sold...........the control system with real time feedback/fail safe would cost much more than the tanks, valves, heaters, hoses and jets.

Would use racing fuel [100+] with an extra injector from an auxillary fuel tank.

Cost a lot of money to build a RELIABLE 50 HP [40 lb/ft > 100lb/ft at 3,000 rpm]

Most forget that superchargers have to make an extra 25-40 HP just to turn the supercharger to net zero gain in beginning.
