Hey,

My oil filter is stuck and I've read that you can stick a screwdriver through the side, and use it to turn the filter off....is this a safe and working method? If not, I'll go buy one of the tools....just wondering if it actually works...thanks!

Lefty loosie, Righty tightie. Sorry, I'm being a smartass today. It's not good for the oil filter, but since you're throwing it away anyway, wear old clothes.

Use pliers because if you can't get it off with your screwdriver, you are fuc#ed!!!!

you are committed when you go the screwdriver route, I have torn the filter in half before, you think your screwed now! Buy proper filter pliers or find a buddy who spends a lot of "me time" on Saturday night polishin his crank, He is bound to have a death-grip that will get the filter off.

there's that beautiful emerald green 240sx again up above. wow, i love that car more and more everytime i see it. ;)........i've used the screwdriver method and its worked fine everytime, except for the mess. i bought a K&N oil filter this last time, which has a place on the end to put a socket onto. hopefully that will work if i can get it off by twisting

when i first changed my oil after i bought my car i had to use a filter plier thing. now i can get it off easily by hand, because i don't put the filter on so tight.

oh, i forgot to mention, it was a nissan filter, too. seems the dealer likes to tighten them a lot.

does anyone have a problem with the Fram filters coming loose? The one on my wife's Toyota keeps unspinning itself. It actually lost oil pressure and the motor shut down. I thought for sure the motor was blown so I tried just putting it back on and filling it up. Fired right up and still purrs like a kitten, damned lucky!
