my car is stuck at my apartment with a bad alt and dead battery. whats the easiest way to change it out since i dont want to tow it.

It's a pretty simple procedure that's complicated by the cramped transverse layout. You can easily do it in your driveway, though, with just a jack and stands.

Basic steps:-Disconnect battery-Use a wrench on the belt tensioner to relieve tension and remove the belt (really helps to have 2 people for this step)-Un-bolt the alternator (it's a long shank from one side with a bolt going into it from the other)

Reverse for re-installation. Make sure you don't forget to reconnect the case/chassis ground on the alternator.

Really, the hardest part of the whole job is finding room to work your wrenches. Oh, speaking of which, the alternator bolts are 14mm if memory serves me correctly.

Hang onto the small grounding wire and all the screws that hold the wires on the alternator; sometimes replacement alternators don't come with all of them.

take ou the A/C comressor and theres more room , if your working on jack stands.
