OK!I have my new 94 Q45 running good now and can address other problems, namely the lack of a cup holder.

I travel extensively and could really use one! Surely someone out there has figured out a solution.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Didn't the 94 have one in the center console under a flip open cover? I thought that was addressed with the 94 update... If not maybe a 95-96 had it and you could swap center consoles?

I know it's Texas, but I agree with the Germans.

Just drive when you are in the driver's seat and drink somewhere else.

While Heath is correct, do read the posts about spilling liquids in the center console area and the expensive consequences. There is a sublime justice.

Heath,

My 94 does have a can holder of sorts under the flip-up console. It is so small that it is pretty useless for anything other than a caned drink. It is also a little awkward driving with the console lid in the up position. Hit the brakes and the lid comes crashing down

And yes, I know that drinking and driving can be dangerous (I spilled coffee on the seat while trying to hold a styro cup between my legs last week).

I use my car for business and many of my trips are 400 miles plus. Sure is nice to be able to sip on a cup of coffee or coke while making those long drives:)

I guess I will just continue to balance it between my legs. No big deal.............

What I do to keep myself hydrated on long trips I just take a cloable 20 oz or so bottle, and put it behind the passeneger seat.easy to reach.Usually I have my jacket lying there anyway, the fold of which, provides a dandy drink holder.

Fred....:)

PS: It can be <very> expensive, to spill anything on the center console.

With the proper racing harness and helmet in place it is hard to drink, maybe a tube from a container routed to your mouth as they do in races. How about a windshield washer pump set up with a button on the wheel and a selector for soda, coffee, or water.............alcohol injection.

I think consuming refreshments at rest stops is good practice. Of course, stepping outside during the Summer in South Texas heat can be less than refreshing. Just pull over in some shade and enjoy.

Just because one can drive the Q from full to empty without fatigue doesn't mean one must.

I love it!!!!!!!!!!!

I do have a 5 point racing harness in my Porsche 911 and a helmet! But while driving it I am usually a little too busy to worry about a drink:) Now it can get down right hot during the summer months so I have kept my AC, yes a track car with an air conditioner.

A few years ago my daughter was on the track at a "time trial" and as she passed my corner station a plastic water bottle came flying out at me. I had left it in the back seat and it had made it's way under her feet. She wasn't too happy with me.

So I guess the best thing is a water bottle in the back seat with a length of tubing to sip from. Works for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Buy one of the cheapo cupholders that hangs on the driver door... Clips into the window channel. Easy to remove and less things to damage if you spill on that side.

OK. I believe it has been about a year since I asked that very same question. As I too used to live in CA, I had to have that cup of java while I was driving on long trips. I ws told, and I wish I remembered who told it to me in the post, that Q of earlier years did not have cup holders because it is a drivers car. That was the reason they did not place cup holders in the car. Now Mercedes and Caddy's, and other types of cars had cup holders in that era. Do we think that the designers of Infiniti either did not realize that or were to smart to realize that a person driving a car with this kind of power should not be holding the wheel with one hand!.:ylsuper

Ahhhh, the biggest fault with the early Q's, no cup holder.

I've actually found one I like, after years of looking. It's adjustable for virtually any size beverage, and fits below the armrest in the console. The only downside is it requires a screw to hold it in place.

Black plastic that doesn't look to out of place in the car. Available at WalMart for just a few bucks. If I have time, I'll take a pic and post it tomorrow.

BTW: DONT try those holders that clip in the vents, had a friend break several vents trying those out. . . and they are a pain to change in the Q.

I think one of those mugs shaped like the picture below (with the rubber bottom) would work without a cup holder.

I don't drink and drive often but when I do I can set something in the flat area and if the bottom is large enough it's reasonably stable. The heavier the better.

I bought my Q from a GM tech in Atlanta who's wife drove the Q... anyway he gave me the cupholder they'd been using. I've seen them in a few Cadillacs as a flip down part of the armrest. Apparently he cut this one off of it's hinges (probably a warranty repair) and it fits perfectly in the center console.

I've also had pretty good luck with using one of those can koozies (the slick kind with the plastic insert) - they seem to make things more stable.

I agree with a lot of you... it's probably a bad idea to drink in the car, but in the real world it beats being thirsty.
