Hey does anyone know if the SR20DET can be swaped into a 1990 Maxima?I talked to a guy I know today who has a nice Max with good outside and inside but the motor is toast. He said he may sell it cheep. With a SR in it it would make for a sweet sleeper.

I suppose you could, but why would you want to. Put the VQ35DE in it. Your going from a v6 engine bay to an I4, I wouldn't recommend that and the fabrication needed to get that engine in there would cost alot. Put the VQ in it, or the stock motor, and 150 wet shot.

No such thing as a four cyl Max to my knowledge.

Go with Altiman's idea. Slap a VQ3.5 in there and hold on!

Putting anything other than what came out of it will require the appropriate wiring harness and ECU. If you swap in either you will need a new transmission ( possibly ) too which will probably require an updated suspension to support the differences ( width, heigth of strut towers, etc ) unless the axles have the appropriate length/size and number of splines to work with the new transmission, thus keeping the correct factory suspension. The VQ35DE, being a drive-by-wire would need even more fabrication that may even extend to the speed-o and gauge cluster....

That's a whole lotta work....

All the more reason to just get a different car that already has the engine you want in it! lol

Good Idea.He sold the car as a parts car for $100 to someone.Great price if you ask me.The body was in great shape and the leather seats still looked good also.Just a bit of wear on the drivers one.

The Maxima has always had 6 cylinders...either 2.4L I6, 3.0L V6, or 3.5L V6...

Better idea would be to build a VE30DE (bolt in) and transmission, then drop those in and mod them with everything u can get.

..This is because a SR20 swap would require so much money and refabbing you'd want to shoot yourself. Most of all fwd->rwd conversion if you want to use a sr20 transmission, otherwise good luck trying to fit an sr20 to a maxima transmission

i am not a big fan of the ve motor. if you are going to all the trouble to go ve, just go vq. it would not be a bolt in. the harnesses are way different.

I have to agree on the built and boosted VG. it would be quite a powerful motor. there's one roaming around Maxima.org.
