I can't comment on the dev tools seeing as I dont program. The only people that I herd complain about the tools was EA. Every other dev seems to have the tools down pact, and dont have nearly as much problems as Ea. Take warhawk sure not the most visually impressive but the draw distance is huge, not one prob with frame rate or jagged edges. Lair is another one great graphics nice draw distance and, I havent had one problem with frame rate. So if the tool are so bad why is just Ea affected by this?C-Kwik wrote:I guess it depends on which console you own/prefer. I am sure EA has some very talented programmers. I do know that one EA programmer for EA that posts regularly on an xbox forum speaks highly of the PS3's power. But like the media lets on, he confirms that Sony's development tools are not nearly as good as the 360's or the Wii's tools. With the smallest installed base, devs have less incentive to put as much effort into the PS3 at this time. Perhaps by next year as the install base grows (even if it still remains behind the 360 and Wii) devs may find that they may be able to justify the cost of additional development expense to optimize the game better.
Um...since when did devs start backing just one system...Sure the rrod box has more units in place but that didnt stop them back when the xbox was lagging behind. + In my eyes releasing a game that his half or maybe a third of another console( exept in the case of the wii b/c it doesn't have the power of the xbox or ps3) is worse for the company. It shows a lack of drive and seems like oh well what the **** ever. Skate is looking good, but piss poor excuses like omg dev tools suck are not going to fly with me.Zee wrote:^^^
The games you mentioned are made by developers that are exclusively with the PS3, so of course you are not going to hear anything from them. I do agree that those games look good though.
The reason that EA is not putting much money or effort into there games is because they fear that if they dump too much money on the wrong system they could lose it all. Their company would then go belly up. So what they are doing is financially feasible right now. Just wait till they decide on who the winner will be the games will get better. I promise .
Ya lol shows what happens when there is no competition..."This year we have 3D grass. It really adds to the game play expierence." After I saw that from the madden camp I stoped buying their games. Although i herd that konami has rights to fifa players as well so Pro Evo soccer should be pretty good this year, as for pro american football i'll think i'll just stick to throwing footballs at my neighbor's kid, at least that looks real.f1seb wrote:I have stopped buying EA games. Even games published by them, I had my eyes on Warhammer but as soon as EA got their paws on the publishing rights I say no. They do sub par games because they can. They have the license for NFL and FIFA, the 2 games that I really love, and hence if there is no competition why go the extra mile and make a good product? Just dump as little money as possible into the project slap the same name on it and release it. People will buy it cause there is nothing else. They also messed up one of my favorite game developers Westwood Studios.
Noone is saying great results can't be achieved on a PS3, even with their tools. But when you consider that any additional work costs more money, it makes much more sense. EA is a highly profitable business. Like any business, the primary purpose is to actually make money. Perhaps maximizing profits. The business model EA runs is essentially a series of several investements. Their key interest is going to be maximizing returns on each investment. They will likely aim for somewhere around the point at which their analysts believe diminishing returns will start.Morph wrote:

The original Xbox did not have nearly the number of titles that the PS2 did. Install base speaks very very loudly. If any company clearly starts to runaway with the lead, the devs will focus much more on it, regardless of how crappy the dev tools might be. My observations indicate that the PS2 was harder to dev for than the orignal Xbox (though, it was probably much less of a difference than with the 2 HD consoles). But Devs put a lot more focus on the PS2.Morph wrote:

Alot more 3rd party devs dont have any issues. Ubisoft has had no problems Graw 2, Vegas both looked and played great, (The 360 was shinier but thats about it.), Codemasters had no probs as well DiRT (demo at least) looks and plays great, and lastly Oblivion. While i can see that less time with the tools would have less than stellar results but dont play the blame game.
