I have an E88 head for my 240z. What is the best way to clean a cylinder head? It has a ton of carbon build up that I just can't get clean with parts cleaner and I have a buddy of mine that says you're not supposed to sandblast cylinder heads. Thanks.

so we're talking about cleaning the combustion area? With the valves in a brass wirewheel and wd40 removes most stuff without damaging the soft aluminum, some carb cleaner should get the back of the valves clean

Why an e88? The e31 has a smaller combustion area yielding a higher compression ratio, on the N42 is about the same volume as the E88 but with larger valves

Yeah, the combustion area and the intake and exhaust. Thanks. I'm using an e88 because when I bought the car, I got an extra engine, transmission and rear diff with it and the e88 was with the engine. I just plan on temporarily using the head in my car while I build the engine. The N42 is the better head?

the N42 has larger valves and is pretty much the exact same volume so yes the N42 is definitely better, what block(s) do you have? the N42 or F54 blocks are 2.8, and as we all know there is no replacement for displacement and if you have an F54 with flat top pistons then you get a higher compression ratio

download the enfgine calculator and play with the various combinationshttp://www.zcarcreations.com/downloads/lengine.zip

Thanks for the download. I have 2 L24 engines. I want to keep it a little OE with the L24 and carburetors. Then add nitrous. There is even a setup where I could turbo my carbs, but I don't know about that.

nothing wrong with the 2.4 but the 2.8 is a direct replacement, if you are swapping engines for any reason other than correct resto it just makes sense to upgrade

But upgrading to an electronic distributor is a must! And tripple webbers are worth the cost if you want to keep carbs

Nitrous is fun but in the su's a small dry shot in the air cleaner is about all you can do short of a custom multi point wet kit
