Would running an E5 ecu for a redtop cause misfiring?

could the wiring be different for an E5 ecu?since the guy who built my car used a 2nd hand harnessoff a redtop, but used the E5 ecu?

just wondering

Although the guy who sold me my car is really really cool,he is trying to get me a 62 ecu for redtop, hopefully this will solve the problem

E5 shouldnt cause a misfiring. They should be the exact same. Possibly running lean.

If your ignition timing has been changed at all from when the engine came over from Japan, there is a chance it is off.

ignition timing, meaning the cas? I tried to adjust it, but i had to do it with the fpr return line semi-clamped off, cause it would bounce around too much

speed racer check out this, and tell me what you think?:

I dont think its the maf, but maybe the wiring , but check it out plz :):)

i just realized, running an e5 would make a redtop run lean? cause i had to pinch off the fpr to make it run more richerbut it is a pain to get it just right

Read that thread again, I already posted what I thought.

I just say that an E5 can run the car lean because when I ran my redtop on an E5, ECU for a week or two it ran lean under heavier loads and higher RPM's. To keep it going good on the freeway I had to use an SAFC to dump more fuel into the engine at about 3000 RPM's and above.

If I were you I would get rid of the clamp and try the CAS timing. There are 360 degrees and you have about a 4 degree margin for error. You want the car at 15 degrees before top dead center + or - 2 degrees. If you have a timing light, that would be the second mark on the crank pulley from the right.

I took apart the ecu today to find that 2 of the chips on the smaller top board (with the ribbon cable plugin) each had a pin terminal that was smoked, and it appeared to be worked on before I had gotten the car. One of the chips had a wire jumping one side of a chip on the top pin to the other side on the bottom pin. I removed that, soddered the broken/missing pins gap up, and double checked its condition. I have partially solved the fuel hole/bogging problem with acceleration, but i have a feeling the ecu is fried. It has no diagnostic lights, and is old looking. But the nice guy I bought the car from bought me a used ecu for a redtop and is sending it to me this week. A really nice guy he is :)

also redid the timing after all that, removed my ghetto clamp on the FPR line, and got a high flow fuel filter, and it runs alot better, but not up to par yet. the ecu should set this car off nice I hope :)
