E3's supposed to be huge this year. Honestly, I only plan on watching Sony's. I'd like to see more on inFamous 2 (especially the change in art style), KZ3, R3, LBP2, The Last Guardian (this is a big one), and lastly GT5 release date.

Whatever Valve's big announcement turns out to be.

I NEED a GT5 release date. Need.

Also hoping for a new Zelda announcement, and I want to hear about some 3DS experiences.

More than anything though.. a GT5 release date. A solid one.

^ +1 on GT5. I think the wait is over and we'll be getting quite a bit of information tomorrow. Kaz said he was going to be there too, so we'll definitely be hearing some news.

On another note, KZ3 looks f*cking awesome.

These. Although Forza Kinect looks pretty cool.

Sony's up today. I have a feeling it'll definitely be better than MS's conference. They didn't present anything surprising, exciting or new in terms of games and Kinect. Sony's got a ton to show today...KZ3, R3, LBP2, inFamous 2, GT5, Move games, and whatever else they have up their sleeve. I really hope Kevin Butler makes an appearance :D

And I'm interested in NONE of that. Not the SLIGHTEST interest in any of it except LBP2.
Of course, I can say the same for MS's stuff, too. Nothing I was looking forward to there.

Here is a live impression of the 3DS from someone on the show floor. I'm skipping around between twitters trying to read them all:

"In a word, the technology was amazing. Actually, amazing doesn't even begin to describe what Jim and I just saw. Even Jim Sterling looked at me and couldn't believe what he was seeing. The hype is correct: 3D. No glasses. The images do not just fall back into the screen as some people thought. They come out at you. IN 3D! WITH NO GLASSES! It is absolutely surreal."

A MGS demo is PLAYABLE on the show floor right now.

Watch the Kid Icarus Uprising trailer on the Nintendo site if you haven't already. It's astounding, even in 2D.

Nintendo KILLED it this year.

PS3 was exciting at first but slowed down IMO. I never played Twisted Metal so for me it was eh.

I liked to plans for 3D but not the Playstation "Plus" online service...

The Killzone 3 gameplay looked really impressive. It was like watching a pre-rendered cinematic. I wasn't interested in it before, but definitely am now.

In my opinion, Sony had the best show with Nintendo following as a close second.

To be honest, aside from the 3DS stuff (which is awesome even without 3D, considering the already-announced game lineup), the thing that has me most excited from today's conferences is Kirby's Epic Yarn. It looks like it takes the best of classic Kirby platforming and adds some new (but not unwelcome) additions to the little pink blob's repertoire. And the Helper is back!

The music of the Epic Yarn trailer was jarringly un-Kirby, though. Kirby's never been about grand orchestral scores, it's about upbeat, foot-tapping, stick-in-your-head-forever melodies.

Sony has always been good at putting on a show, but less successful about delivery of the goods. A few highlights...

At E3 2005 Sonyshows off the the non-op God awful silver PS3 with the double penetration controller. This reminds me of MoD's comment in another thread about companies telling me that they'll have a new game in 12 to 18 months...ugh! Also at the same E3, when Ken Kutaragi is interviewed by a female from G4 (can't remember who...mayeb Morgan?) about online gaming with the PS3 and a potential broadband requirement KK says he doesn't want to "force players to buy into into new technology." Ken, it's 2005 and you're talking to consumers that will be dropping $700 on a gaming console..they already have broadband. Just own up to the fact that you don't have nearly the infrastructure in place that Microsoft does with Xbox Live, be honest for a change and tell us that you're still working on it.

At the same E3 Sony attempts to pass off pre-rendered footage of Killzone 2 as an actual gameplay sequence.

E3 2007, Ubisoft demonstrates the "PS3 Exclusive" title Assassin's Creed, but the game is actually being run on an Xbox 360. Certainly Sony isn't to blame for Ubi's choice of console, but they certainly did nothing to dissuade the idea of it being an exclusive title.

And then there's the continuous GT5 delays...

Sony takes 2nd place, behind Nintendo, but ahead of MS, whose entire presentation revolved around the failtastic Kinect. Yeah, they had a new console revision, which earns points. But Kinect sucks, and it was the only other thing they really talked about. Kinect and not being broken anymore. Yeah, fail.

BUT...as Badger said, E3's not about how you present, it's about what you present. 90% of Sony's presentation was random generic games that barely deserve TV ad airtime, let alone E3 stage time. Shaun White? GTFO! And I cannot believe everyone got excited over Killzone 3. WTF? That series is the running joke of the FPS world. No substance, all shinies, proven and reproven. It's got all of Halo's overpromotion with none of Halo's charisma, fun, or not-being-complete-crap. Killzone 1 was crap. Killzone 2 was crap. Killzone 3 is going to be crap. Oh, but it's 3D. Yay gimmicks.

And speaking of gimmicks, I loved the attempts to assure us that Move will not be a Wiimote knockoff...despite the fact that it comes packaged with Wii Sports. I mean PS3 Sports Champions. And the fact that not ONE SINGLE "real" game was shown using Move. NONE. Just a bunch of gimmicky Move-purposed Wii-like cache-in games.
My favorite part of Move is the fact that the initial entry fee is ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY DOLLARS FOR A SINGLE CONTROLLER. If you want to play any of the inevitable slew of Wii-knock-off party game cache-ins with anyone else, it's going to cost another $70 for each additional complete controller. And even if you buy the $400 PS3/Move bundle, you STILL have to spend an extra $20 to buy the nunchuck, which is bafflingly not included. At least Nintendo gives you both halves of their motion controller with the console. Can you imagine the uproar if everyone had to go out and buy a Wii Nunchuck with their Wii? WTF?

Naw, the only thing that didn't completely suck at Sony's presentation was LBP2 (oh, and Portal, but that's not a Sony thing, it just happened at Sony's presentation). Everything else was garbage barely worthy of stage time.

I love my PS3, but I have been disappointed with Sony as a company for a long time...and I certainly didn't see anything today to change my impressions. They're so hung up on 3D (which I still maintain is a gimmick that will NEVER see the momentum they're praying for) and keep acting like that's a really big deal. It isn't. 3D's entry costs are WAY too high, and even if they weren't, the tech sucks right now. I can't say if I'll EVER buy a 3D TV, unless I end up wrong and the tech becomes ubiquitous in HDTVs in the coming years. But that's the keyword: "years." Not now. Not tomorrow. Not even next year. YearS. 404: Care not found.

Oh, and there's Playstation Plus, which, depending on its goodies, I may be interested in. I maintain hope for free movie rentals (even a limited number) each month with the paid subscription. The first 3 months being free for everyone is awesome either way. Great way to get people interested in something they might otherwise be hesitant about. So that's 2 things that were worth seeing.

Nintendo, on the other hand, hit my target.

The 3DS is EXACTLY what I wanted. In fact, I've been saying for months that I REQUIRE the following things from it:
An analog stick
A bigger top screen
Remakes or ports of N64 and GCN Zelda titles and other last-gen titles.
Optional/toggleable 3D

And it's got 'em all. Analog stick's there. Bigger top screen's there (granted, it's lower resolution than I hoped...which is disappointing). Ocarina is being remade for it, which means we might also get lucky and see Windwaker ported over. 3D is adjustable, including a full-off option.
I'm still anxious that Nintendo will pull their usual stupid and foul up the online service for it, but recent trends indicate they MIGHT have finally caught on to just how important streamlined online is for any modern console.

Then there was Skyward Sword (stupid name, I have to admit) which despite Nintendo's assertions to the contrary, looks a hell of a like like the Zelda we all know and love and not like a big departure from the established formula (a good thing; don't fix what isn't broken).
And Kirby's Epic Yarn!
And Epic Micky
And Other M (thought we've already seen a lot of it, so they could have survived without it)
And DONKEY KONG FRIGGIN COUNTRY RETURNS! Which is almost as awesome as Kirby. Almost.
And THE NEW KID ICARUS GAME! Which I've been speculating about for months. Maybe more awesome than DKC. Maybe.

Yeah, Nintendo wins in my book.

Meh, Sony won in my book. I don't care for any of MS' products, and I'm not a huge DK, Icarus, Kirby, etc gamer. I'll play stuff like SM2 and Brawl, but not really much else. Kevin Butler was awesome.

Nope. I don't think it's possible for me to be any LESS interested in GT5. And that's ignoring the fact that it has been "coming out" for years and I'm sick of hearing about it anyway. I've never cared for GT games and I don't care for racing games in general.
Yeah, I hope Twisted Metal ends up being as good as it has the potential to be. I'm really looking forward to it. The more I think about how awesome it could be, the more excited I get.

Classic Twisted Metal was all about a handful of players on small maps with very basic combat mechanics. But the current console generation provides the opportunity for a much grander scale of metal-twisting fun. More players, vaster maps, more vehicles and things to kill them with. It all adds up to awesome, assuming it's well put-together. I certainly hope there's some sort of "classic" mode as well, but a modern larger-scale multiplayer interpretation of TM sounds like a blast.
