I know this topic has been beat to death and I have searched and researched. But I have a few questions still...

I have a 96 240sx that just got totaled. Engine is still good. 123k on the engine. I also have a 89 240sx with a bum engine. I'm planning on pulling both engines, rebuilding the de and adding a few go fast parts and then slapping that bad boy in the 89 shell. From what I have read, you need besides the "engine" and "accessories", complete wiring harness and the cluster. Header? If i go aftermarket I assume I would use the one that fits the 96 ka? will that line up with an exhaust for an s13 though?Any words of advice would be appreciated.....

you will need the S13 exhaust manifold along with the lower intake tract (so i'm told)

other than that, PS lines and AC lines if you want to keep it.

Yeah i did it once, but you should get new pistons and rings for that swap at least. I have the parts numbers for you, too.

here are the part #s for the 8.6:1 pistons, will make a DE about 11:1 ratio.

12010-30R10 std. grade 112010-30R11 std. grade 212010-30R12 std. grade 3

12010-30R72 oversized 0.50mm12010-30R73 oversized 1.00mm

Those should get you going right. Make sure you check for the proper grade with your machine shop. It will yield you plenty of HP and torque (at least +20 or 30) to enjoy! Great with a full exhaust system and intake.

Thanks 2bn.. The research I have been doing has all your old posts in them from 02-03... So thanks for the reply..Are you suggesting new rings and pistons because of the high compression? I have read you need 93 octane and an additive... What was your experience with them?I am planning for this build.. A hacked Maf, Safc, 2.5 BRM exhaust, Injen Intake, 248 Cams, and header(s) Possibly even stock SR injectors, fuel regulator, and a high flow fuel pump.

I would take a standalone or EMS instead of a safc, but thats just a preference. SR injectors are top feed, you need side feed injectors for KA24DE (im not 100% sure about this, just cautious).

You have to take the whole motor to the machine shop and check the head to make sure it is within spec, then hone out the block and check to see if you need any boring. Then you can spec your pistons size and order.

The new rings and pistons are just because there is little chance of the piston grade matching between the two motors and mainly because the pistons and rings are old and not trustworthy. You cant just slap it all together you know. It has to be measured and rethought till it fits perfect.

Yes. But like I said, you need to go to the machine shop first before you order so you know what you need. Dont forget to order the OEM rings and circlip package. What ever you do, DO NOT order any SOHC rods. The DOHC rods are the reason why you are getting such high compression in this future setup.

Now that I think about it, you should also have the shop check out all the crank bearings for wear. You might have to order those too...
