i'm going to look at a 93 240 in my area. the guy said that the e brake is stuck and he doesn't know what it is. i've never seen this happen so i figured i would ask what i should look for when i go check out the car.

thanks for the help.

happened to my brother. Caliper sticks to the rotor, needs the wheel taken off and pulling cable while hitting caliper.

One other thing you can check is the cable itself...you will have to raise the car a bit...but get under by the driveshaft...there will be one wire from inside that goes to an equalizer somewhere under there then splits to the wheels...just pull on the cable a little with the ebrake off and see if there is slack...sometimes things get corroded under there and can make the cable stick or the return springs lose tension. Prolly not the sprins since its rear disc .. but I think the caliper is the culprit.

hope that helps.

As far as buyin the car...take a look at the whole thing...mileage..condition etc...check the tires, oil all that good stuff. And if the price is right go for it.

If it is the caliper, you can get new ones or rebuild them...you do generally want to do both. prolly new pads maybe a rotor..look at the pads to see if they are worn evenly from inside and out and also drive side and pass...

A sticking ebrake would not keep me from buying it if the price was good. And it should be an easy fix if you have ever done a rear wheel disc brake job...you will need a special tool to spin the caliper piston in...you cant just use a c clamp or you will need yet another new caliper...and if you need I can walk you through it...

good luck

the car is in good shape and has 18k on the motor rebuild. its a good price as well. the only thing that bothers me is that i can't drive or ride in the car before i buy it.
