Hello all, I thought I would drop a line here and tell of my experience this morning with my wifes QX4.
There has been an intermittent grinding sound coming from the brakes, I checked the front's found a stuck pin in the passenger side caliper so the caliper couldn't adjust that side. After a few cus words, and a BIG hammer it is now freed up. But I thought I would check the rear brakes since we have never replaced the shoes in the drums. after adjusting the shoes in I finally got the drums off. upon inspection all was O.K. after I reinstalled everything I went to adjust the E-Brake.
The regular brake pedal went mostly to the floor, the E-Brake handle had no tension at all. Google was no help, I searched the forum - no help. Fortunately I have some friends who run a tire store. I went to the pro's to ask. fortuneately he know what the problem was.
When I tightened the brake shoes, I overtightened them so they were beyond the range of adjusing (they couldn't grab whatever they needed to grab to adjust. So after taking everything back apart and readjuting the shoes out as far as possible and still being able to put the drum on, the E-Brake works fine and the regular brake pedal is fine also.
so no need for reply's just thought if someone else did this and had no experience with drum brakes they could use the info.
