I was wondering if anyone has tried one of the ethanol conversion kits and if so how well do they work.

Do you have a link for one of the kits?

I ran E85 on a rom tune for a while with no problems. I had aluminum fuel lines, walbro 255, and RC injectors.

I wish we had e85 close to us in Reno! To my knowledge its great stuff when it comes to tuning ....loves timing! Go to raceone85.com a bunch of good info.the only downside I've heard is that you will have to double up on fuel upgrades. With e85 it is not uncommon to Max out 1000cc injectors.

I made a thread literally about 2-3 weeks ago about this. if your running stock motor all you really need is 370cc injectors off an sr20det etc. and maybe readjust the timing to mbt. should be fine

Bump your injectors up 30% and make sure your 02 sensor is in good working order. Remove the negative battery cable over night to re-set the ECU's self learning for the air mixture, and then fire it up. It'll prob take it a few tanks of gas to get itself sorted out, but you sould be fine doing that.

You WILL see a decrease in fuel economy! It takes some careful tuning with E85 to minimize loss in fuel economy, but regardless, you'll always have a loss there. The ECU SHOULD see the increased fuel octane and increase the timing accordingly.

This is NOT the way to maximize the use of E85 though. Because E85 is mostly alcohol, it doesn't behave the same way in the combustion chamber that gasoline does. To see the most gains from E85, you HAVE to adjust the timing maps. E85 burns MUCH slower than gasoline, so to counter-act this, you need to run more timing EVERYWHERE, but especially at lower engine speeds. As the RPMS increase, the need for increased timing diminishes. This also holds true for boost.

Honestly, on a NA KA, running E85 won't gain you very much at all, and you will loose a lot of fuel economy. If it's a boosted motor, and you're having to add extra fuel and retard the timing to fight knock, then the E85 is a viable solution to resolve your fuel octane problems.
