Hi, I was wondering what gear you all use when you are tuning on the dyno? I've heard before that people use the 1:1 gear, which would be 4th on the 240. I'm just curious why the 1:1 gear is used the most? Sorry for this question. it's probably an easy answer but i'm confused. thanks

Depends. For th most part, a taller gear tends to give a longer pull so in a sense better "resolution". For turbo cars it can make a bigger difference because of the higher load. Some turbos may not hit max boost in first gear or for as long a duration so lower gears may not give a very accurate detail of what the car can do.

5th gear pulls can be used as well, but I doubt there would be enough benefits, would be impractical, and on some cars, impossible due to speed limiters.

its also used for ease of calculation pruposes for the dyno, no bothering with adjusting the torque figured and such for gearing..just thought I'd add that.-chet

It's a good point, but it's an easy calculation to convert the figure since they can tell how fast the drum is turning and how fast the engine is turning. I think the Dyno actually does the calculation for you....
