Good question...I believe the answer is more than would make it worthwhile to own one...unless your Jay Leno or something :) Out of curiosity I'm going to see if I can figure out how much they cost now!

Well, it looks like the software/temperature probes/air/fuel gear will cost you about 3500 : http://www.competitiondata.com...e.pdf

It seems that you cannot find out the pricing on a dynojet either unless you call them so now I direct you to: http://www.dynojet.com/auto.shtml

One other thing to note is the necessity with some models(especially if it's going in your garage) of making a pit for it to sit in, its a rather large assembly with the drums and all. making a concrete pit that large in your garage is not a cheap proposition.I estimate it'd probably cost you 15-20,000 to get totally set up.

They make cool portable dynos. It was posted here on PDF some time ago. IT was basically two big blocks that had axles coming out of them and you attached the axles to your hubs.

It depends on what sensors and what not you get, but a typical Dynojet in-ground 248C (single roller, measures up to 1200HP), is approx. $30,000, and the the above ground is approx. $45,000. Although, the price can fluctuate drastically with different options. You can get them cheaper, and you can also pay a lot more. That's just a rough price.

If you are seriously considering getting a dyno, I recommend you stay away from a DynoJet if you are gonna do any type of tuning on it. Inertia dynos (like a DynoJet) are not good for tuning. To do proper tuning, a load dyno is what you should have. Go do some reasearch on them, it's easy to find info on them.

Just to give ya an exact cost, a local shop around me just had one installed. It is a 2 wheel drive dyno, and for all the equipment minus a computer with installations is 30,000 dollars. It pretty much cosisteted of digging the whole, droping the huge dyno in the whole, putting the brakes on it, running the lines to where the computer will be, and mounting places to strap car down into the cement. Its pretty damn expensive if you ask me, and that was a 1200 hp dynojet dyno.

its more or less a shop with a gas station added on to it, its one of the older dynos that has been in there since the early 90s but it still works just fine. I think it only goes up to 1200 hp or something along those lines. Also its the burbs of philly with all the little rich kids haha
