The weight of your wheels has no effect what so ever on the horsepower of your engine. Also using Mobil one should not effect power output either, but Id like to see somebody try this on a dyno.Cheers

every pound you take off the wheel and tire packege , you multiply that by 3 and total off that you take off the total weigt of the car.so in my case i seved 10 lbs on each wheel x 4 = 40 x3 = 120lbs.take that off the 3851 lbs - 120lbs=3751 that how much my car is now.also with 10lbs lighter wheels will show better numbers on dyno.if you want faster car get lighter wheels.

Chassis dyno measures the rotational acceleration of drum vs time in 0.001 second increments then uses calculus to convert to torque, then the standard formula to change torque to horsepower. SO anything that will increase the drum acceleration will show up as REAR WHEEL TORQUE and HP.

The 2 areas that create the greatest frictional loss [heat up] are the tire/wheel/ roller interface and the ATF [heated by torque convertor slipage]

Synthetic [diff, ATF, oil] can lower friction and increase the readings 1-3 HP, as can soft fast wearing high friction tires with correct rear camber and toe alignment.

Unforunately the air intake system has already been tweeked as part of the power up in 2002 from the old 276 HP design [1990-1996] to the new 320+ design. Watch out for mods which might allow hot underhood air to get into intake with negative consequences.

there will be no hot air going to the air box. 03 m45 design is like a ramair set up . it is good enugh. we just need better air filter. so on tue, we will all find out if k&n works.as far oil from filter getting on the mass aIR CENCER . FIX THIS PROBLEM YOU JUST NEED TO BUY NEW ONE VS. REOILED ONE.

Save your money. Unless you want more oil and dirt, there is no better filter than OEM.

There is a great link to air filter tests by Q45tech in the Q45 forum. You should read it first before spending your hard earned money.

Can't wait for the results!!! I was wondering what these cars would put out. Will be a nice comparison as I know what my GS400 did on the dyno....

Keep us informed!!

Very hard to compare apples to oranges, which is what one is doing when different cars are run on different days on differenet dynamometers with different fuel and different tires under different atmospheric conditions with the hood up.

Each run is a snapshot, but since there is no control, results are not comparable in a meaningfully significant way.

Far as filter or none or any other brand, increase will be way less than 10%, which is minimum noticeable by most owners. Then there is no measure of extra contaminants without oil analysis.

Forget a dyno the best way..... is to get on a timed track and run the beast...then post your best 1/4 mile times...who cares about all that scientific dyno crap.....just run the thing...thats what it is all about anyway right?? You can dyno all the horsepower in the world but if you cant drive the thing when they say go.....you are owned!!!!

dont worry that's my next step. drag strip next to me will be open soon. i will be there.it is good to know if k&n works. remember any gain on the dyno at the wheels it is so much more then at the crank.

WELL HOPEFULLY YOUR RIGHT! BUT I WANT TO RUN THE CAR STOCK TO SEE WHAT IT DOES BEFORE HAND BECAUSE I KNOW HOW MUCH THIS CAR IS UNDERRATED.THE BOOK TIMES ARE SO OFF IT IS UNBELEIVEABLE.BUT I DO PLAN TO PROVE MY POINT THIS WEEKEND AND HOPEFULLY WILL MAKE ALL 03-04 M45 OWNERS VERY PROUD! BY THE WAY I HAVE THE MICHILIN MXM4 ALL SEASON TIRES ON WHICH SUCK COMPARED TO THE BRIDESTONE SUMMER TIRES(I'M A MANAGER FOR ENGLEWOOD TIRE NJ) AND I STILL PULLED OFF A 0-60 TIME ON THE GTECH PRO OF 5.4 SEC ON AN INCLINE JUST TO TEST ACURACY SO THE CAR IS VERY POWERFUL.BE CONFIDENT IN YOUR M. IT'S A BEAST!!!

today is the worst day of my life.i live on the salt water river that is where my car is going next.i hope you understand what happened.my 02wrx had better numbers (but all modified)this dyno the most accurate it's shows smallest numbers to compare to others cheap ones.tech at dyno told me that car is running too reach there for my numbers so low.so 60 min. later i am at the dealer running test on mass air meter and all that stuff. results were within infiniti specs. so i am all f--ked up.dyno guy tald me that i could install for 500 thing that will be able to tune air mix to gain horse power.as of right now i will be racing every 350 z and the rest of them fast fancy cars until i looze.first week in april drug trip is opens so if it is not 13sec. car and over 100mph, river right is in my friking window. sucks i just spend 2k on wheels and tires.210whp.if you know about our cars running rich please let me know b 4 i hang myself.truly yours,

future deadcaug man.

base on the numbers from "bag302" using gt2 : 0 to 60 in 5.30 and 1/4 at [email protected] .whp should be at lease 275 to 290. 3850lbs car.i did in my wrx 13.5 at 101mpr. 3200lbs. 215whp. 210 torque. it make my car 280 to 290 h.p.i just need to race some cars.the person with the nicest reply will get my car.please go easy on me. i ruined my life until i win some races.gone racing, caug.

i wouldnt let this bother you to much.there are different results on different dynos.theres a guy on nico that posted his dyno for the new m and his results were 225 and another guy on dragtimes.com posted his dyno stock was 223 and with intake and exaust he pulled 235 to the wheels.i know that with the gtech pro my dyno ranged from 265 to 290 to the wheels with my vehicle weight dialed in @4250 pounds and a guy on nico with a 2007 m45 with intake and exaust with the gtech pro got from 255-285. so dont give up just yet. believe me if the car weighs in @3851 and can average 97-99 mph (book results) it has to push more than 210 without a doubt!

And, remember to turn the VDC off for all runs! It resets itself every time you turn the car off.

So you bought this car in hopes that it will run 13 sec 1/4 miles with 100mph trap speeds??? Not to sound rude but get a life! Your M45 is not a race car or even a track car by any means! That is what you have your WRX for, put your money and time into that car and cruise around in class and style in your M. If you want to get rid of your car, Ill take it or Ill give you 50 cents on the dollar for your wheels and tires alone, cash money! LOLBut whatever you do, please please PLEASE! use spell and grammar check because it is really hard to understand jibberish.Cheers!

Oh one more thing, I could be wrong but with independant rear end you should expect around 25-35% loss at the wheels due to drivetrain loss. With that in mind you are not that far off. Have you done spark plugs and air filter and changed your oil yet?Cheers

Hey fellas!

I am just trying to figure out a baseline for where we should be. make sure to find out the dyno you are on also. It does make a huge difference, and we do need a comparison for mods ect.

I should be on the dyno soon as well. If all goes well and business is good I will make mods for us here possibly within the year. I want only mods that will increase gas mileage and power. As the car is new to me I do not want to bash on the reliability just yet.

Why not make power and increase gas MPG...the mods may pay themselves off. Oh yea, wheels do not add power, but free it up!

Thanks for the replies!Kyle

1) You are wrong. An IRS will NOT cause an additional 25-35% loss. An automatic transmission, however will cause such a loss. Manual trannies cause a 10-17% loss. These are averages, so your results may vary.

2) Who care what HE uses HIS car for?? Maybe YOU use YOUR car as a luxury cruiser. To each his own. I used my Lexus as a daily driver and every weekend at the drag strip. I now use my 500+HP Supra as a daily driver and GT car.

3) I'd say your number aren't REALLY too bad, since you said you used a dyno that gives lower numbers. I suspect it's a Mustang dyno, since they dyno 10-12% less than a Dynojet. So if we do a drivetrain loss of 25% that would be 255RWHP on a Dynojet (give or take a few). If it's a Mustang dyno, take off another 10% and you have 230RWHP. Oh...and it you have big wheels or big brakes, expect to lose a few more HP due to rolling mass. So all in all...not horrible. If you really hate your car, you can send it my way....I'll take GREAT care of it!!

Cheers....

Since we dont have manual transmissions then how am I so wrong??? You just verified my post, thanks. And I never said "additional".

Either way we have both said the same thing in different words. With a guess-timate on drivetrain and dyno inefficiencies(which is all you and I have), his numbers arent anything to cry about. And on another note, not every car is going to get the same numbers, even if EVERY variable was identical. Lets see some numbers from others that dyno theirs and form some sort of average baseline to go off.Cheers

You are wrong because your previous post said an IRS (Independant Rear Suspension) may cause the loss. That's entirely different from saying an automatic transmission may cause the loss. Perhaps that's what you meant to say, and just confused the 2 terms....

Cheers.....
