Hi Guys,

Just finished installing a brand new Walbro 255lph HP. The old one is dying a slow death. I noticed reduced performance, i.e. during boost. The old walbro also emitted louder than usual sound. Also the sock of the old walbro is so dirty. The new walbro has smaller sock than the old one however. The car is a beast again with the new walbro. Just thought I shared my experience.

they are cheap because they die pretty regularly.

losing fuel pressure, loss of power, excessive whine from pump.

some times they last a while, most times they dont.

it wont last nearly as long as an OEM pump.

last time i said that i got my **** jumped all over this forum....finally SOMEONE else who agrees with me on here that they are el cheapo fuel pumps...im on like my 3rd one in a years time...and this time its a low pressure pump

well then maybe i should go with the z32 TT pump... although i hear it makes ALOT of noise when compare to the walbro.it is OEM though so it should last way longer...

the pump from the TT should be good as long as your not making extreme power. i would have to dig up the flow rates at pressure to say exactly. off the top of my head, i would say the TT pump is good for 350 WHP on a 2.0 4 cylinder. it could be more, but i would have to double check to be certain.

the fuel pump from the new mustang cobra is 255lph.

ive never tried to install it in a nissan, so i dont know what you would need to make it work. cant imagine it would be too hard though.

one thing though- you MUST clean the sediment and crap out of the tank before you install a new pump if you expect it to live.

bosch pumps are very good also, but kinda hard to get.the bosch 044 is a 330lph pump. it outperforms most others at high pressures.

i found the graph.

the TT pump at 13.2VDC can supply up to 4 900cc injectors.

just use the TT pump and do a rewire, and it should be all that you need.

ok, heres the breakdown-

provided you do a rewire to provide the pump with full power [not needed for 600cc injectors and below], at 13.2V the TT pump will flow 240lph at 43 psi.

lets say your running 20 psi of boost. that ups the fuel pressure to 63 psi. at 13.2v and 63 psi, the TT pump is moving 225lph of fuel.

225lph is good for- 225/60=3.75lpm=3750cc/m3750/4inj= 937.5cc/min injectors at 100% duty cycle.

even if you dont rewire, your still good to safely supply 800cc/min injectors at 100% duty cycle.

i would be pretty certain that 800cc injectors at full flow at 20 psi of boost would surpass the power handling of the stock block.

the TT pump should be all you need without a built motor.

the TT pump looks like a VERY good choice.

anyone know what the voltage at the pump through the stock wiring is? i dont see many 240 people rewiring their fuel pumps.

Good info, Ivory. I was contemplating on getting Z32 TT pump but it's quite expensive ($260). I figured I put another Walbro thinking it is just a one in a million thing failure. Apparently not, right lennon? If this new walbro ever fails again, I will definitely go with Z32 TT one.

I did rewire my pump. I use 30A Bosch relay & 10 gauge wire from the battery through a relay. I use the wire that was used to run the pump (+ side) to turn the relay on. The 10 gauge wire goes to where the pump connector is. I did not know if the voltage drop improves or not. I did this for peace-of-mind thing. However, I do not use 10 gauge wire all the way since I could not figure out how to replace the wire that goes thru the fuel pump cover with the rubber seal and everything. At least I cut down the length of the wire that drives the pump since my battery has been relocated to the trunk just behind the rear seat.

How about cleaning the fuel tank? Anybody has any info on that?

thats a good way to do it. even if you have the normal wire going into the tank, the current doesnt have to flow through small wire the entire length of the car.

sediment has alot to do with dying fuel pumps. but, on the other hand, the walbro pumps are small to begin with, and have to work very hard.

the TT pump will definately outlast a handful of walbros, and will pay off in the long run. or the time it takes to kill two walbros.

i would say that even without doing a rewire, 600cc or so injectors can be fed without worry.

you could go higher than that, but its not good to push your luck with fuel. you also have to take into account the pressure drop from the filter, fuel lines, ect.

if the pump can supply about 930cc at 13.2 volts, then it would be safe to figure a 35% margin to account for voltage drop through stock wiring, and the restriction of the fuel lines and fuel filter.

thats about 600cc injectors with the above margin. perfectly safe considering you shouldnt run your injectors at 100% DC anyway.

if you run more than 600cc's, than a rewire would be a good idea to achieve full power at the pump.
