I've got a 92 S13, KA24DE with about 160k on it. My problem is that intermittantly when I shift into neutral and coast to a stop it will bog WAY down, near 100-200 rpms, it will usually recover itself, but occationally dies. anyway, the rpm will fluctuate between 1000 and 100 a couple times then level out. any advice??

have you checked for vaccume leacks ??

use break cleaner, carb cleaner, throttle body cleaner. and lightly spray around the vaccume hoses and if you idle goes up that hose has a crack or is loose.

also when was the last time you did a tune up on the car ??

It's sort of a project you could say. I'm doing a little mainenance here and there when I get enough money. (being a poor college student sucks) Last month I did use a BG intake cleaner in shop class to clean up some carbon. other than that I havn't been able to do much other than a couple oil changes and coolant flush.

Don't shift into neutral to come to a stop (in some states it's actually illegal to do so)? That's the only thing I can think of to stop it before you do some maintnence and cleaning.

I apologize if this is a noob question to you but....How are we suppose to roll to a stop, then? Do you suggest we downshift to a stop? I'm confused because I normally shift to neutral when rolling to a stop.

lol, well actually the only reason i coast in neutral now is to take the load off the throw-out bearing as much as possible since I am fairly sure it's on it's way out and don't quite have the $$$ or time to fix it. but that's interesting that you mention it's illegal in some states, i just hope Kansas isn't one of em :P

we just got a new smoke machine in shop, so as soon as I can get my car in, I'll smoke test the vacuum lines.
